Soleil was 18, while Charlie was 29. His voicemails were so weird: "Hello, this is Charles."

Yuck, that was the lovely older man she was gushing about??! I’m grossed out now. I'd like to think that back then Charlie had not quite gone that far off the rails yet. The encounter was consensual, and Soleil was legal. Plus, his comment was respectful. For these reasons, I'll give Charlie points. (The degenerate behavior previously seen in Charlie and other stars in Hollywood have set the bar kind of low.) *shrugs*

His voicemails were so weird: "Hello, this is Charles." In the old days, every time Charlie got sober, he'd want people to call him "Charles". For that one year in the late 90s, he was so committed to sobriety he changed his name to Charles on his movie credits too.

Slightly OT, but I love Soleil Moon Frye! I met her years ago at a book signing in Los Angeles, and she couldn't have been nicer. I told her that as a teen, I used to watch her Friday nights on Sabrina, and she was like, "you're making me feel old! But Melissa [Joan Hart] and I still talk all the time, and I had a lot of fun doing it." Soleil's mom was there, and she took a picture with me too. Soleil also stayed after and signed autographs for people who showed up late.
Soleil has spoken quite a bit about being surrounded by sleazy guys in the industry, both during and after Punky Brewster. She developed early, and men on set would literally grope her and say really offensive things (which is part of the reason why she publicly had a breast reduction later on.) It's surprising that Charlie Sheen, of all people, was so polite and respectful of her boundaries.
I guess if Charlie is a nice guy when he's properly medicated and not doing drugs, it helps explain why Denise Richards held out hope and stayed married to him for as long as she did.

I watched Soleil's doc this morning.
I'm still processing it. As a Gen Xer, I remembered all the people featured in it. Even the not-so-well-known ones. I had no clue she befriended the skaters/actors from the movie Kids. Somehow that feels so random. She was way more connected to all sorts of Hollywood folks than I had originally assumed.
Anyway, Charlie always had a "bad boy" rep, but I don't remember any truly terrible things about him (way back then) with regard to women. I'm not entirely surprised that Soleil thinks fondly of him. She might be one of few people who still does. 😂
That said I can't be 100% certain of what happened between Charlie and Corey Haim because Corey isn't here to tell his story. If all that is true, then he's never not been a scumbag. It would be difficult to reconcile that with Soleil still speaking well of him. She seems genuinely sweet and given what happened to her growing up, I can't imagine she'd be ok if Charlie sexually abused Corey.
