Having addiction issues is no different than having cancer or developing Alzheimer's or any other health issue: assholes get all of these things too, not just nice people. Charlie is an asshole with an addiction problem. Take the addiction away, and he's still an asshole. He's just a less destructive asshole.

Well, and given the outcome, it's a pretty good toast. Martin Sheen probably felt like he and his wife weren't going to be able to raise any and all kids that Charlie and Brooke might have. In retrospect, Martin Sheen appeared to be clairvoyant. He was not going to blow smoke up Charlie's ass for the sake of being polite. Was Charlie crazy and using the drugs to self medicate? Was he fine and the drugs made him crazy? How did he get here? During his whole "tiger blood" and "winning!" phase, I started to think he has legitimate mental issues in addition to the addiction issues. (I know that mental health professionals regard addiction as a mental health problem, but what I mean is I suspect Charlie has some other underlying mental condition.)

I suspect this phase was caused by a mental breakdown from being diagnosed HIV positive.

Promoting a new condom brand. I can't really call this a bad thing, even though the article seems to acknowledge he isn't exactly everyone's image of an ideal spokesman. The piece also mentions that Sheen is participating in a clinical trial for a new HIV medication. I found this interesting, since the last news I really read about him was that he was supposedly going off a conventional med regimen and pursuing 'alternative' therapies. This seems like a turnaround in attitude for him (although knowing this guy, it could just be publicity...)

It seems like he's hit a period of being stable; all his meds have things under control.....hope for everyone's sake it lasts.

He was on Graham Norton last night. He was in pretty good form and told a great anti-Trump story. I was impressed. I hope he continues to improve and remains stable.

I can't really call this a bad thing, even though the article seems to acknowledge he isn't exactly everyone's image of an ideal spokesman. Yeah, that's an understatement. Charlie Sheen can't sell me anything. If Charlie tried to sell me something I already buy I'd probably stop buying it. It's not like most celebrity spokespeople are coming armed with a lot of credibility, but a promiscuous, substance-abusing wife beater with disgusting teeth who just thought it was a good idea to go off of his HIV meds which were working beautifully in favor of some snake oil treatments that nearly killed him? Yeah, why would I base my condom purchases on which brand he's currently being paid to promote? If anything, this will cause me to look at that brand in the condom aisle and go, "Ew, gross, not those!"

I watched him on Graham Norton, too, and he did come across surprisingly well. That said, I was glad he wasn't on the whole program and I kept waiting for him to say something obnoxious. I wish him physically and mentally well, but I'm also fine with not really seeing him at all. I don't trust him, I guess.
