The only explanations I can come up with for seemingly decent people working with and praising him are that they don't know about the accusations against him, or they buy some line of bullshit he feeds them about his accusers lying to for money or revenge. Wealthy celebs are more likely to believe and sympathize with a story like that than the rest of us.

Uncle Terry wouldn't dare try to be slick and compel Martha to do his sexual bidding, right? It'd be hilarious if Gwyneth were to throw some subtle shade about that too in a future issue of Goop.

Nah, the rich and famous will get the sweeter than sweet & very professional treatment, plenty of innuendos thrown in if the subject is in for it, but good god no! He could get in trouble with those people, no no, only the new and naive models need to apply. Besides I have no doubt Martha with her jail cred knows some people, who know some people...

Has anyone watched the Martha Stewart documentary on Netflix? It's getting a lot of attention because Martha confesses that she twice cheated on her husband, who she calls a "piece of shit" for cheating on her (with her employee). I think Martha has done a brilliant job reshaping her image in the last five years or so, but I remember in the 80s and 90s her reputation was as a cold, mean, ruthless businessperson who was a horrible boss. The doc covers her trial and imprisonment, and while I think the outcome and fines were fair, the prison sentence was unnecessary. She did not commit a violent crime, she didn't make millions off insider trading (I think it was around $45,000), did not have a pattern of doing it, etc. The feds wanted a big fish, and they used Martha for a high profile case. It was interesting that the prosecutor was James Comey, the guy who could not be bribed by Trump. A woman who had a nasty reputation was publicly shamed and humiliated and the public lapped it up.

I'm a Martha fan from way back (with a grain of Maldon salt, of course) and am looking forward to watching the doc!
Every once in a while I wonder why she served time and so many others haven't, and then I think, "Oh right, misogyny."

I agree with both of you, Ladybug and granolamom - even though she was guilty, she got a much harsher punishment that anyone else has for insider trading. (Hellloooo, Congress, and for once it really is BOTH SIDES.) OTOH, I like her much more since she went to prison. Her bitchy personality is more campy now and I love how she hangs out with Snoop!

I'm a Martha fan from way back I respect her, and in the doc she emphasizes repeatedly that she's a "teacher" of homemaking skills. I admire her elevating these skills and showing that they are worthy of praise and respect, while at the same time saying "yes, you can make this complicated and intricate thing at home yourself!" She is a bit like Julia Child that way. Snoop Dogg is also a master of reinvention. He went to jail for drugs, went on trial for murder (acquitted), and has been sued a couple of times for SA. Now he's the darling of the Olympics. They do seem to have a genuine friendship.

I had read this biography about her back in the day (before she went to prison) and it really drags her, but it does talk about how hard she works. HOWEVER she is also apparently one of those rare people who can operate on 3-4 hours of sleep a night, and she didn't seem to understand that most people cannot physically work 20 hours a day for days on end. Another reason I love her post-prison is she learned to crochet and her cellmate made her a poncho that s he wore the day she was released. We stan a crochet queen!

That seems to be a theme with Comey huh? I like Martha at least post prison. It seems to have really changed her in positive ways. And I love her friendship with Snoop. Definitely going to watch the documentary.
