I met her a few years ago- she's incredibly beautiful in person. Her hair color is gorgeous, whoever does it is a genius. She wasn't particularly nice to me (not mean, just not friendly), but I think she's so great I didn't even care. She's very no nonsense.

I've always thought she is rather pretty. And that she's aged well.

What was it about the '50s? I look at my parents' high school yearbooks, which collectively span the entire decade, and even the freshmen looked middle-aged. Kinda like Stockard Channing in Grease...
Martha looks great for 70--hard to realize that she's only a year younger than my mom.

Same thing with my mom's high-school yearbooks, all the girls look old. My mother comments on it every time she looks at pictures of herself and her friends from that era. I think it's the hairdos/haircuts and the glasses - horn-rims on the boys and cats-eye frames for the girls.

I think the people back then might have been better looking though.
They looked groomed.

I think the people back then might have been better looking though. They looked groomed. That's part of it, but I was recently looking through some 1970s yearbooks--gross moustaches, non-fashion ironed and feathered fashion hair and the college students then look even older than the college students in the 50s. In sum, they no longer looked like young versions of their parents, but like youths and they still look older.

I think people used to carry themselves "older" or with more....maturity?
I don't know if people used to carry themselves with more gravitas or what (i.e Jackie Kennedy vs......Katie Holmes), but I think all age groups have sort of melded into each other, both in terms of fashion and behavior, now. Well, it seems that way with celebrities anyway.
I mean, I thought Florence Henderson was from the generation who kept things to themselves, but even the 70 year olds seem to be revealing as much as a 20 year old would on Facebook.

What is the deal with Martha's daughter? She really does come off as the most vile person. It's kind of shocking. What awful things did she say on The View?

I'm sure having Martha for a mom was no easy life, but Alexis really does seem to be a joyless person. I saw her on the view and motherhood has not softened her up at all.
