Or she's trying to force him to take responsibility seriously since his scandal with the Spanish socialite a couple months ago. Interesting timing, though she's had a lot of health problems and may just want to chill. But also, he needs to grow up and maybe she wants to make sure she's alive to ensure that he does.

Well hopefully knowing he’ll be under more scrutiny and less likely to be able to run unchecked around Europe with another woman, Fredrick will get his shit together.
From everything I’ve read Mary is very popular and well liked so I imagine any future indiscretions would not go over well with the public or her….

Exactly, I think Fred’s actions in Spain accelerated this change of succession. He apparently had no security detail with him in Spain and waited until Mary had left Denmark to slip away out of the country to meet his mistress. He won’t be able to do that anymore.

What will her title now be? It's so odd to have someone abdicate and after they were in this position for so many decades. She wouldn't be Queen mother...but revert back to her role as Crown Princess? I read that she's going to still be called "Her Majesty" after she steps down, but I'm wondering if she'll be queen, lowercase? I was impressed with her being a Queen in how she designed the dresses for Enrengard: The Art of Seduction for Netflix.

Weird to think that if you've embarrassed yourself in the second most prestigious job, the result is getting the most prestigious job. What will her title now be? I read that she's going to still be called "Her Majesty" after she steps down, but I'm wondering if she'll be queen, lowercase? I did a quick check on Wiki for what other European monarchs who abdicated in the 21st century are called afterward, and there doesn't seem to be consistency. Some are "[former title] emeritus" in their language, some retain their old title without "emeritus," and some reverted to the previous title held before being monarch.

It would be hilarious if she took her late husband's last name and "title" and became Countess Margrethe de Monpezat. That would silence those of us who were mad at her for taking away some of her grandchildren's titles and giving them this fakey French/Danish title.
I like how Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands just goes by Princess Beatrix. This time period is weird for the fact that we have so many (of the few) Euro crowned heads who have abdicated recently, as opposed to just hanging on until the bitter end of life. Juan Carlos of Spain (disgrace), Albert II of the Belgians (health), Marge (probably health), Beatrix (cool? Don't even know her reason but she just seems like she's enjoying her family life). It seems unusual. Even royals want work-life balance?

Fred may restore the titles of his brother’s children, that would be a nice gesture. They would have no responsibility though and would have to get jobs for a living.

I think it's very unlikely he'd do that, personally. Whatever the family feelings about their titles being removed, it seems like the general public is neutral to in favor of it.

It might please the now-untitled family members but would undoubtedly anger the public. All these royals who work to slim their monarchies know what’s up. Reinflating the number of people living the high life on the public dime is not gonna be popular.

Those titles need to stay gone. Relatives that aren’t direct heirs shouldn’t get them. We don’t need more wannabe princes and princesses like the Russian nobility of old.
