Adding my congratulations and best wishes to Fred and Mary and baby. Apparently, gender discrimination is alive and well in Denmark. The baby will only inherit the throne if it is a boy, an only child or if the constitution is changed. I wonder if the law will be changed if the baby is a girl. I thought they're already in the process of changing that law? I think Sweden had the same law before Carl Gustav and Silvia had their children. They didn't change it after Victoria's birth but after her brother was born. Topic? Congrats, Mary and Frederik! I like these two and I bet they'll have one cute baby.

I hadn't realized the law hadn't been changed in Denmark yet. I truly hope they'll do something about the constitution.
So, thirty years from now could we have Queen Victoria in Sweden, Queen Ingrid in Norway and Queen ? in Denmark?

Victoria of Sweden excepted, yes. Mary in Denmark, Letizia in Spain, Maxima in the Netherlands, Mathilde in Belgium and Mette-Marit in Norway...all with a baby on the way.

Well, Haakon in Norway, Willem Alexander in the Netherlands, and Philippe in Belgium will be succeeded by their daughters. At some point, there could be more reigning queens than kings in Europe.

Apparently it's a virtual certainty that the name will be Christian, as Danish kings have alternated the names Frederik and Christian since the 16th century. So that takes a little of the fun of guessing out of it!

They won't announce the little prince's name until his christening, which will probably take place in November. Apparently, he will wear the same christening gown as his father did, which is said to be on the small side, so it shouldn't be too long before the ceremony takes place.

There's a book coming out this month in Australia about Mary. more on it here (but you might need a day pass to access this site).

Do we Australians have to give a nickname to everything? Mary's newborn son has now been dubbed the Kingaroo.

He's adorable. I think he looks similar to Mary.
