Ellen and her penchant for practical jokes (especially the "Let's scare the schnikey out of this guest by having someone jump out" schtick) has never been something I've enjoyed. YES! I'm constantly waiting for someone to get hurt. The ones where Andy goes to Haunted Mansions don't bother me as much because he knows what he's getting into, but when she hides in the guest bathroom? Argh! Someone could slip and fall! *Shakes cane into the sky*

Whatever happened to Paula Poundstone? She took a step back in the 90s to be a foster parent and adoptive parent to several children, including children with HIV. Later on, when one of her daughters was a young teenager, the daughter accused her of sexual abuse. According to Paula, the claim was untrue, but she did plead guilty to endangering her children by driving them around while intoxicated and got treatment for alcoholism. She did dip a toe back into standup a few years ago. I didn't think her material was great and she was dressed in very exaggerated, "1980s comedian" costume, which gave me the uncomfortable vibe that she was stuck in the past. She's a regular on NPR, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and she's hilarious! I'm going to have to check that out, I still like her. I saw her on tour a few years ago. I think I was the youngest, straightest person there. She dressed exactly as you described, in a red zoot suit. She was funny, but at dinner before the show my friend was describing the time she had seen her about 20 years ago. My friend told a joke she remembered from that routine. The story involved cats. Wouldn’t you know it, PP did the EXACT same joke at the show we went to. A 20 year old story about cat vomit. I will say, she does a good Southern accent. And she’s probably nicer than Ellen.

Does anyone watch Ellen’s game show? I feel a mean undertone through all of it, like she’s really enjoying the terror and potential injuries. I quit watching ages ago.

I haven't watched a full show in a long time but even at the beginning she always looked like she would rather be somewhere else. Now it's like you expect her to get up and walk out at any moment.

Absolutely, in my opinion she is throughly enjoying herself, terrorizing and punishing the constants on that show. I don't understand how she can look into the camera on her talk show, telling people to "be kind", and then host another show where she is extremely unkind. I am certain many people would say, "It's only a game." Her sheer joy at the unkindness she perpetrates on Game of Games is not at all consistent with her message of kindness. The first time I saw the show I knew we were really seeing Ellen's true colors.

I feel this way about some of the other competition game shows where people are set up to embarrass themselves and potentially incur injuries. I enjoy a good pratfall as much as the next person, but many of these shows have an undercurrent of meanness in them, and it's a turnoff.

Wasn't Allison Janney injured on Ellen's show? Ellen had her so something, and she fell and bruised her face and filming of Mom was delayed, unless I'm misremembering.

I think your rememberance is a combination of both accurate and misremembering. - via recapo Also, I may or may not be willing to kill someone if it meant I could have a body like Allison Janney's.

hildymatildy, thanks! My quick Googling didn't find anything. Allison Janney seems lovely, inside and out. Ellen still seems like a jerk.

Wow, that's a Gwhiney-level backhanded comment right there. Girl bye.
