"It's just not a challenge anymore"? Not "I was exposed as a total garbage person, no one buys my sunny public persona anymore and my ratings tanked as a result, so I'm leaving before I get cancelled"?
Lord. She couldn't just say something like, "It's time to move on." She's gotta be all, "You people bore me. Bye."

She couldn't just say something like, "It's time to move on." She's gotta be all, "You people bore me. Bye." IMO, as a daily "watcher" (it's on as background noise) she's been over it for years. I was stunned when she signed on for three more years, but she explains that in the article. I don't think the bad publicity helped matters, but I think it was always her plan.

Her defence is, all the guests had a great time? Wow.
I guess it doesn’t possibly occur to her that the experiences of those who work for her and the celebs who stop by for a 15 minute appearance could possibly differ? It’s not as though the staffers would complain to the celebs or walk about crying or complaining in front of them.
Way to play victim and deflect all responsibility. Whose name is it on the show again?

Every time she talks about this my opinion of her slides even further.
“How come no one told me about this?” Probably because you were part of the problem and your “the little people aren’t allowed to make eye contact with me” policy didn’t exactly make you come across as someone people could approach with an issue.
And her defense has always been “the guests have a good time” and a handful of celebs defending her always missed the point of the complaint - that the little people were treated like dirt. She still isn’t considering their experience.
And of course she plays the misogyny card. It was either that one or the homophobia one. Which ever one will absolve her of any responsibility. She’s the worst.

Whose name is it on the show again? Exactly. What staffer is going to run up to Laura Bush or Toby Keith or Suze Orman and tell them that the person who's going to puff their new book/album/project is actually a horrible bully? That sounds like the quickest way to get fired.

Reading her comments, at least she has the self awareness to realize that she is "extremely sensitive" because the public reckoning about this issue was not actually that bad in the grand scheme of things. Hilaria Baldwin may have even got it worse for faking her Spanish heritage and she didn't do anything bad to people.
When she addressed the controversy in her first show of the season, she chose her words very carefully and tried to make it seem she was taking some responsibility, but clearly that was just to appease people if she's now saying it was untrue.
IIRC, her speech was something about how if you are the "Be kind lady" then you are held to a higher standard, which really is not what this is about. She's failing to meet very minimal standard of how to treat people, especially employees.
There does seem to be a demonstrable connection between celebrities who preach publicly about kindness, but do the opposite when it comes to how they treat the people who work for them, or other people who they don't think matter.

We need to remember than Ellen is just a human. It is not easy for the best of us to see our own faults (it sounds like I am defending her, but she is just a person). If someone walked up to any of us today and told us that we were mean or a bully, it is likely that it would rock us hard. We would likely feel hurt, angry, and persecuted.
Most of the time, even the worst assholes don't know they are assholes. Yes, there are people who embrace their shitty attitudes but those type of people are rare.
Ellen is surrounded by people kissing her butt, worshiping at the alter of her fame, telling her what she wants to hear. They tell her she is kind. She tells others to be kind but that does not mean she is. I am certain she is told that it is okay to demand behavior of her "lessers" because she carries the "burden" of fame so she must draw boundaries, so all her cruel little acts become justified.
It all narrows down to people truly believing that talent, fame, and wealth are a virtue which makes them better people. They don't really believe in equality but in a aristocracy where if you have not achieved success (in the form of fame or wealth), then you are inferior.
What we are seeing with Ellen is a person who has been called out as a shitty person and a hypocrite who cannot and will not step back to assess her behavior because whether consciously or unconsciously she feels she is simply a better person than others therefore it is not bullying or unkind to treat others like dirt because compared to her, that is what they are.
All we can do, as consumers, is refuse to buy into that ideology and hold her and those like her accountable. Of course they are going to squirm, dodge, and try to call it a conspiracy against them. As someone on this board once said (I wish I could remember who so I can credit you, because this concept seriously changed my whole view), "When someone is privileged any loss of that privilege feels like an attack." Ellen’s privilege has been called out so yes, she feels attacked.

There were some more Ellen stories on Deux Moi the other day. A former member of Ellen's household staff said Ellen would plant things like nuts and olives under the drapes and in between the couch cushions, and then would flip out and scream if the items were still there after the house was cleaned.
Another time, Ellen was out of town, but kept this person working until late (11 pm) on a Friday night. Ellen then called and insisted that s/he drive back to the house and check that all of the vehicles had at least three quarters of a tank of gas so that guests arriving the next day would be able to drive them. The employee wanted to do it on Saturday morning instead (their day off) and Ellen insisted it be immediately.
I mean, did the husband in Sleeping with the Enemy know he was a villain? Because this is what Ellen sounds like. And I have heard credible rumors that Portia is treated that way too.
