Dave announced today that he had a baby outside his marriage. Which is a weird way to say you cheated on your wife. It's also weird he admitted it publicly, I bet someone was going to leak the news and he wanted to get ahead of it. While I'm surprised because of his good guy reputation, I think I shouldn't be, he's a rock musician and all that. My take away from this? Trust no man, not even the man with a great reputation.

Yeah, that feels like a David Letterman blackmail situation. Disappointing, but not shocking.

I'm don't know if blackmail is involved. He did have sex with a woman who's not his wife without a condom (or condom failure) and impregnated her. I never bought the "Nice Guy of Rock" and this doesn't help.

I think the "nice guy of rock" owns up to what he did rather than denying the child is his or tearing apart the woman. Being a nice guy in rock does not translate to behaving like Mr Rogers. When I heard the news, I was disappointed, but can't say I was surprised. I can't really say there is any man in rock who I believe has NEVER cheated on his wife. I'm not going to clutch my pearls and be surprised when told that someone in rock, nice or not, drinks, does recreational drugs, or has sex with more than one woman.

I guess at least he's being honest and not trying to hide the kid away, although it does sound a bit like getting out ahead of it. To be honest I'm never surprised when a rich and famous person cheats on their spouse but it doesn't sound like they had an agreement or anything. I wonder how old the child's mother is?

That was my take as well. If he has planned to treat the fourth daughter the same way he treated the first three, he was going to have to announce it eventually, I guess. (And I truly do hope he is treating all four daughters equally.)

I was surprisingly disappointed in him when I heard it. I don't think that automatically makes him a horrible person, more like someone who failed in one aspect of his life. While it does sound like he was trying to get ahead of the news breaking - I do think that it was a decent statement that made clear he intends to be a presence in her life, but also recognizes that he's hurting a lot of people he loves. So good on him I guess?
This morning, I read somewhere that he had retained a lawyer. So, I wonder if what he was getting ahead of was his wife filing for divorce.

He has a history of cheating. His first marriage ended because of infidelity and he cheated on a girlfriend with Winona Ryder.
There's a saying that a man is only as faithful as his options, which I hate to think is true, but Dave obviously is out on the road a lot with temptations all around. But if a man doesn't want any more kids, get the snip.

He'd need a lawyer if they were divorcing, but he also could need a lawyer to work out child support / visitation. Hard to tell which it is - or both.
