Wow, that's just so tragic. I just realized I started up this thread years back and it's sad that it has to end this way.
There are so many things like with eyes, skin, beyond other main organs. At least the end of her life will have some purpose for others in need. I don't think the drugs will be bad if they let it work out of her system and if there wasn't any long-term damage that make them not viable.

I went back to page one. She dated Steve Martin? I had forgotten about that.

It really does look like she tried to take her own life. Thankfully she didn’t take anyone else with her. She had a sad life. May she find peace.

What a very sad ending to a very trauma-filled life. It does sound like her brother's suicide all over again. All my sympathies to her children.

There are so many things like with eyes, skin, beyond other main organs. Yeah, when my dad died, he'd been ill for a while and most of his organs were unusable, but they were able to use his eyes. We got a lovely letter from the eye bank thanking us and saying that, because of our dad, two people would now be able to see. I haven't thought about Anne Heche for years, and never knew much about her, but this is really sad. (I seem to remember that Pammy from TWOP created a one-woman show that consisted of quotes from Heche's book, which was pretty bizarre, IIRC.) I hope her family, especially her kids, can find comfort; what a horrible way to lose your parent.

I don't think the drugs will be bad if they let it work out of her system and if there wasn't any long-term damage that make them not viable. The statement said they were evaluating if anything was viable. Skin is the largest organ in the body, but given her burns, I don't know if there's anything to donate there. Possibly her corneas, if they weren't damaged. It's a sad situation.

This is so heartbreaking. So much potential and talent, but it was always derailed by her personal issues. Those poor kids. I hope she found the peace she was always looking for.

Shopgirl was also inspired by Steve Martin's relationship with Anne Heche. Their breakup kicked off a mid-life crisis for him. According to Steve: "I spent about a year recovering and asking why things happened the way they did. It was a tortuous love affair. When it ended I found myself alone again and wondering what life was all about. I'm not a depressed person, but I was pretty gloomy after Anne left."
I don't think Anne reciprocated those feelings. From what I remember of her autobiography, she was pretty dismissive of him and the relationship. But she seemed to have a pattern of doing that after breakups.
I'm re-watching Wag the Dog in her honor. I'm not going to say she was a brilliant actress, but she did have potential that I think her personal issues prevented from developing.
