That's a very weird sounding name...although, maybe it's just b/c I'm from Canada. Is it a common name in Norway? I don't think it's because you're from Canada. It sounds strange. It doesn't have the right "rhythm" to it. The combination of those two names are not at all common. I searched the name search on a statistic site, and it says that 69 men in Norway are called Sverre Magnus. I highly doubt that any of those men are born after 1970. It's two very old names with a lot of tradition behind them though, so I can kind of see why they chose them. Some of the kings during the Viking Age were called Sverre and Magnus. But since I've kind of accepted the horrible names Maud Angelica and Leah Isadora now (the daughters of Princess Martha Louise), I guess Sverre Magnus will sound better in a couple of years as well.

And they both look like their father when he was born. Those are some really good dominant genes in that family. Damn.

Aw, I love Haakon, I think he's really good-looking and comes across as quite charming. He came to Germany a few years ago and everyone (=me) just fell in love with him. You could tell that in interviews journalists wanted to ask him some mean little questions but they all ended up being totally charmed by him. At the end of his visit he gave a speech in German (reading it from a piece of paper) which was hilarious since he clearly didn't know how to pronounce a lot of the words but he was the one laughing about it and himself which was cute. I like MM, too but a lot of the time she still looks as if she's not exactly at ease with her job (not that I would, this has got to be crazy, especially considering her former life) while someone like Princess Mary looks like she's never done anything else after just a year. Haven't seen any recent pics of Ingrid but I remember thinking that she sure was a bald baby up until her first birthday. I hope she has some hair now.

Here are a few photos of the prince. The first one with the whole family is really nice. Marius is such a sweet boy.

I kind of have a soft spot for Mette-Marit. She and Haakon seem to really be in love.

How is Sverre pronounced? I'm not sure if I'm able to explain that. It's pretty much pronounced as it's written, but the r's aren't thick like English speking people would pronounce them. As far as I know, most English speaking people can't pronounce the r's like we do. It's like they roll off the tongue, if that makes any sense. The first e is prounounced like the a in words like 'bad', 'mad' etc. The second e is pronounced like the e in 'sell', 'bell' etc.

The Norwegian guy I know named Sverre tried to get us to pronounce it correctly...to my ears, it sounded like he was trying to say Farrah with an S in front. I couldn't get my tongue around it since I roll my "r"s and it sounded too poncey. I call him something that rhymes with "SFair" and he just lives with it. Like my Danish friend Palle...properly pronounced, it sounds like "Pay-leh" but I can't handle it so I call him "Pally" and it still cracks him up ten years later. I have to admit, Scandinavian names trip me up more than any other kind.

Completely OT, but how would you pronounce my name? (Ane) English speaking people have a lot of amusing ways of pronouncing it
