I'd be inclined to pronounce it as "anna". Me too...unless names have accents all over them to direct me, I tend to go the easy route. ;D

I know I'm not supposed to double post behind myself, but the thread hasn't been posted in since December, and there's some news. Mette-Marit's father died. They obviously didn't have a great relationship because of his antics, but it appears that they did come to some sort of truce (or make amends) after he fell ill since there were pictures of Haakon and Mette-Marit visiting him while he was in the hospital.

Yeah, he really was a poor soul, wasn't he? Can't say she got much help from him in trying to overcome the escapades of her youth with a little dignity.
How long was he married to that stripper? It felt like a week.
But still, I hope Mette Marit will be okay eventually. Losing a family member is never easy. The funeral is on Monday. I wonder if Marius, Ingrid Alexandra and Sverre Magnus will be there.

I hope not. They are one of my favorite crown princely couples. I think he adores her.

Oh no! I have no idea about their politics, but I like them, probably because I'm blinded by Haakon's scorching hotness. In those pictures, Mette Marit looks kind of harsh and run down. I wonder if there is something else going on, like maybe an addiction. It's also possible she is having health problems--spinal and neck issues are nothing to mess around with. ETA: And I agree with americanchai. I also liked the fact that Mette Marit seemed to be her own person, with her own messy, non-princessy story. Also, would talks between the Norwegian royals and the Finnish government be conducted in English?

I sincerely hope these rumors are only rumors. These two are my favorite royal couple, with Victoria and Daniel in Sweden.

Also, would talks between the Norwegian royals and the Finnish government be conducted in English? Norwegian royals were talking to the Finnish government? Finnish is not mutually intelligible with any of the Scandinavian languages. Finns all learn Swedish, which is mutually intelligible with Norwegian, but I think that would be a needlessly roundabout way of communicating. The vast majority of Nordic people speak English, and that is the international language of diplomacy these days, so I think English would be the most logical option. I caught a snippet of the Scandinavian Film and Television Awards not too long ago and that was done in English even though it was only Scandinavian stars and only for a Scandinavian audience. I found that interesting since theoretically they could have all used their native languages, but English really does predominate.
