I even bought some kind of banana clip-esque contraption that was supposed to help you get your hair into a rolled updo but it naturally did not give me that same look. Are you by chance referring to the Topsy Tail? I had one of those. After I inverted my pony tail with a Topsy Tail, I secured it with a large scrunchie I had made in Home Ec. HAHAHA. I am, but I would never in a million years have remembered that! It did not work for me at all, so that was a waste of whatever it cost to purchase it from the As Seen on TV aisle at CVS. And my sisters totally made scrunchies in Home Ec. Those ALSO did not work, the elastic was garbage and wore out almost immediately. ETA: Hmmm, I'm wrong, that's not what it was. I DID have a Topsy Tail, but the inverted ponytail didn't look that great with my hair type. But this other thing was like a folding comb, you closed it up on the end of your hair and then theoretically rolled the hair inward to create a French roll or whatever it was called. But it was definitely not user-friendly and did not achieve the desired effect at all.

I wanted so badly to be able to use one but my hair is way too thick and I could never close the stupid thing

The makers of the Topsy Tail TM also manufactured the French Twister TM. I think I had one and never figured out how to use it successfully. I just came to terms with the fact that I was not destined to ever sport a Kelly Taylor French twist.

Ha! I still do my hair in that topsy tail style all the time, I just don't use an actual topsy tail. So I was AMAZED when I saw that it's a style that Kate Middleton also utilizes.

I wanted so badly to be able to use one but my hair is way too thick and I could never close the stupid thing No, I did have banana clips and was able to use those semi-successfully. Those were curved in the shape of the back of your head, this other thing was a little straight clip. Yes, I believe that's the one! I think I still have it in a drawer upstairs, it occurred to me recently that the little plastic chest of drawers I moved into my dorm room in the late 90s is still traveling this world with me and in fact was full of old stuff from that era. Lots of Loreal tinted lip balms, all the free gift stuff from Clinique that I'd be so excited to get for free but then never used anyway. Pretty sure the French Twister was in there. It came with an instruction manual, but absent a better head of hair and personal stylist, I was also unable to achieve the Kelly Taylor/Christina Applegate French twist.

I was thinking the other day that it's been about 30 years, but the cast of Married With Children have almost all redeemed themselves. That was such a repugnant show, everyone involved was deeply tainted in my eyes. I have forgiven Christina because of Dead to Me. I have forgiven Ed O'Neill because of Modern Family. I have forgiven Katey Sagal just for being around and being cool. Verdict's out on David Faustino. I loved Married with Children when I was younger! I Remember watching it on Fox. Me, my older sister and cousins would watch it. It was hilarious. I actually have a soft spot for Katey, Christina, Ed, and David because of the show. It was crass, sexist, hilarious and it would never be made today. But Al Bundy, TV character, may have been a total buffoon but women were treated well and respected on set and behind the scenes. Found the following on Wikipedia - “Despite the series’ controversial content and being clearly aimed at a male audience, it did receive recognition behind the scenes as being one of the few series on at the time that gave women prominent roles backstage and was often praised for its treatment of women. Producers rewrote the sixth season story of Peggy's pregnancy, which coincided with Sagal being an expectant mother, as a dream Al had after Sagal miscarried. This was done to prevent the actress from suffering further trauma by having to interact with an infant on the set.[16] The positive treatment of women on the set also allowed Bearse to become one of the first mainstream actresses to publicly come out as lesbian, which she did during the series and received positive recognition for doing so.[7]

I still laugh at the absurdity. Marcy was my favorite character. I loved when she would butt heads with Al.

I definitely watched this show when I was too young to understand it — and thinking about MWC made me think of that show with Nikki Cox which was similarly about an unhappy nuclear family — where the father talked to a stuffed bunny??!!! Seriously, some of these shows would definitely not fly right now.

She treated him like a himbo and he was afraid of her. 😂
