I know that her breast cancer was genetic, but she's still dumb for continuing to smoke. I just don't get people.
This always kinda gets me too. I know someone who had breast cancer at a pretty young age and she's been cancer-free for about 10 years now, but she smokes and eats nothing but crap and diet soda and I don't get it. There's also a lady at work who I know has cancer but then I see her out smoking all the time or she'll walk into my office smelling of it. It makes me want to climb up onto my high horse and lecture, but I bite my tongue. It's not my business, really. And the breast cancer survivor has said that just about every bad disease runs in her family, so she figures one of them is going to get her eventually, so she's just doing what makes her happy.

Apparently it's harder to treat stupid than it is to treat breast cancer.

She is reported to be extremely focused on her looks, so I guess she's willing to trade possible future health problems for current thinness. It does seem weird that someone who had cancer would smoke, but people who survive major health problems frequently become more cavalier rather than less. Something about beating the odds, maybe.

There could also be an element of denial about her illness, but I wish she would stop smoking.

I stopped smoking about 10 years ago and let me tell you... it was one of the hardest things I had to do. I had to remove myself from a group of friends because the temptation was too strong with them. I'm glad I did it but it was hard... and, well, I smoked while my mom fought (and lost) Ovarian Cancer. Addiction is a funny thing.

Yoss's father just recently died of cancer, so I think we can forgive her for not being as understanding as some.
I quit smoking 8 years ago, and like Rascal, it took the major lifestyle change of moving, getting a new job, and starting to date my now-husband that helped me to break the habit. I had to completely change my daily life. Its not easy, but you can do it if you want it enough.

We are the same age and I look five years younger than her. In the closeups on Samantha Who she has a harsh look to her face. But then again I have a few extra pounds. Im thin, but not rail thin, and I think thats helping my face as I age.
