I'm so happy for him! I can't imagine what it's like struggling with who you are and finding the time and trust to reveal who you really are to the world. Really hoping that his family is supportive and giving him all the love and respect that he deserves.  |

So happy for him! My step-nephew is so much happier in his life since transitioning. I hope he's got all the support and love in the world.

I worried about that because I know Elliot has been very sensitive about the subject and passionate about LGBTQ rights, but he probably figured this would happen and was prepared. And I continue to be amazed at the way history repeats itself with this stuff. I think I noted in the JK Rowling thread before it got heated in there that people are currently doing to the trans community what they once did to POC and gay people and don't seem to realize it. I mean, I am especially shocked that a strong anti-trans wave is coming from the lesbian community, when (as "Mrs. America" reminded me) back in the ERA era in the 70s there was an argument about whether or not lesbians "qualified" to be considered women in the equal rights fight. Now they are arguing whether or not trans women "qualify." |

There's a pretty strong anti-trans feeling in the overall gay community. Not everyone, but they're not the natural allies you'd expect them to be.

There's a pretty strong anti-trans feeling in the overall gay community. Not everyone, but they're not the natural allies you'd expect them to be. That's what Tom and Lorenzo are speaking to in this thread, which I thought was absolutely lovely. That announcement took a lot of courage; I wish Elliot all the happiness in the world. |
