Plus, considering that it opened in over 3700 theatres, is 30 million really that spectacular? I don't think so, but the media LOVES them some J.Simp (still can't figure out why), so I'm sure the rags at least will spin this as some huge star-making success. I have never in my life rooted so much for a movie to bomb as I have with Dukes. I'm sad that the opening took in $30 mil, but am drooling in anticipation as to what their second-week numbers will be. I'm anticipating, and hoping for, an 80% drop off. Four Brothers and Skeleton Key will be released this weekend, so I hope that these flicks (or hell, even Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo) can help kill this shittastic movie.

"I have never in my life rooted so much for a movie to bomb as I have with Dukes."
Me, too! I feel so mean-spirited, but I've found myself thinking, "Fail! Please fail! Please be a big fat flop!"
And I agree -- Why is the media so in love with Simpson? A so-called friend gave me a subscription to US, and a week or so ago I flipped through it and couldn't believe how many times I came across her picture.
Those weird cat-like teeth of hers drive me nuts.

I knew this would have a big opening weekend, because there are plenty of people who would see it despite the bad reviews because they liked the tv show or they like Johnny Knoxville or J Simp - whatever. These are the folks who will run out and see it opening weekend. But I fully expect a huge drop next week once the "it was awful" word of mouth starts spreading around. This movie won't have legs.

I just saw this movie. Don't ban me or anything, but I actually enjoyed it. Now I'm of the age that recalls seeing the TV series when it was still popular. It's not Shakespeare, it's not Spielberg, it's a lightweight summer movie. I'm so tired of movies that need to mean something or be significant in some way. It's a freaking movie. It's a lightweight summer movie with no discernable message, except the Dukes been in trouble with the law since the day they was born. But hey, take this with a grain of salt. I love "Dumb and Dumber", "The Three Amigos", and "Anchorman". My movie tastes are not all that sophisticated. Jessica Simpson did pretty well with her role and it was pretty small. The Duke boys were unbelievably funny. It just looked like they were having so much fun. I remember seeing "Ocean's Twelve" and it looked like the cast was having fun - good thing someone was because that movie was recycled crap on a plate. This movie, the cast was having fun and dammit so was I. Don't pay full price to see it, but it was fun to see in a matinee.

If not liking these movies is a sign of sophistication, then I'm gladfully tacky.

I just saw this movie. Don't ban me or anything, but I actually enjoyed it.. BANNED! Oh, all right, speciousreasoning, you can still hang out and play! Actually, I've heard of a few folks (via morning radio) who said they thought it was entertaining too... mostly because they went in expecting it to be the Worst Movie EVER, and so when they got some chuckles out of it, it was okay. I still like to think Willie was too stoned to know what he was doing when he signed the contract for this thing, though....

Thanks for letting me play still. Like the people you heard on the radio, I went to it, thinking it would be like when I went to "Glitter" (that movie was craptastic). Colour me surprised when I actually enjoyed it. It reminded me of the TV show, plotwise. They actually made a joke about Uncle Jesse aka Willie being stoned at a party. That joke was pretty clever.
