OK, I'm hoping that someone geeky can answer this for me.
The computer I am using is a laptop that is several years old. It can read CDs, but not write. Also, because of it's age, compared to the new computers, it's woefully short of memory, etc. That has made it impossible for me to upgrade more recent versions of browsers, etc.
I know that I need a new PC and because I really didn't use the laptop much beyond my desk, I don't need to have a laptop again.
Here is my question. I have many files on my laptop that I will want to transfer to the new PC (when I get it) and also save backup copies of on CDs. Is there some way to connect the PC and laptop so that I am able to copy the files from the laptop to the PC?
Thanks much. I've been working on a family project and must transfer these files.

You may want to look into an Ethernet Crossover Cable. That might work.
ETA: I don't know all that much about Ethernet Crossover Cables, but another, probably easier, option is an external hard drive. They aren't too outlandishly expensive, and they're useful for storing your stuff. I know I use mine all the time because my laptop can't quite hold the massive amounts of pictures and music I have!

I looked into an external hard drive sometime back, but was told that I would need to use the USB port to connect to it. Also told that the USB connection on my laptop was not reliable.
As a result, the backups I've been able to do have been very sporadic and nowhere near complete.
Isn't there a way to connect the laptop to the desktop, so that the laptop appears like another drive on the desktop? I'm hoping so.

I still can't change my homepage. I know how I'm supposed to change it, but it's not working. I think I'm going to call the guys up at the store to see if they can fix it. That, or I'll wait till my uncle or my kinda-sorta-not-really boyfriend can take a look at it. Too bad for me, they both live in Calgary, goshdarnit.
I'm going to have to call Sasktel, my internet provider, about where in my apartment I can get internet on my laptop. I'm kind of thinking it may have just been the cord I was using. I'll test it out tomorrow and try to call Sasktel sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I have two questions: Is there some way to make my avatar bigger? The file is 100x100, but it looks much smaller than that on here, and other bigger looking avatars are actually smaller than mine. I'm linking through imagestation, btw.
Also, I'm on a Mac OS 10.3.9 at work and they recently updated all our Office stuff. However, Word is now insanely slow. Is there something I need to clear out of it (memory, clipboard) to speed it back up? Thanks in advance for any help with either question.

Does anyone know of a reliable site for legal free downloading of music? I have to get some music for a final project I'm working on and I don't want to put anything sketchy on my computer or anything.

Check your settings here at the board, you've got it at 65x65 pixels which is the default. Its easy to change it to 100x100. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know why I can't upload pictures on Photobucket when I have downloaded them from a CD? I got my pictures developed at Target and I saved them to my PC from the CD you get with it. Now photobucket won't let me upload them. I get the "page currently not available" error.
I uploaded a picture that was emailed to me just now so I know photobucket isn't down. The pictures I am trying to upload are only around 1100 KB.

Aims, check your file extension.
I had major problems with Photobucket yesterday.
