The only thing weird is she's been told by two different sales associates NOT to use Ocean Salt on her face. Buh?!? A thousand years ago (OK, maybe 12), I remember it just being sold as a body scrub because the salt was coarse. I haven't tried it since. (I liked it, but it dried out my skin. Baw.) Brookie? Man. The website was out of every single damned thing I wanted to order the last time I looked at it. haha. ETA: I just spent a boatload of $$ at Lush.com - they have their holiday stuff out and now my wallet is weeping. Dang you guys! Old LUSH employee here... *clears throat* My recommendation: unless you have very oily skin, I would NOT use Ocean Salt on your face. There are broken up bits of SALT in there, and they can rip the shit out of your skin if you're not careful (they can do that to the rest of your body's skin as well, but THAT skin isn't as delicate). Salt is also very drying, so it can also strip your skin of any oils and make things worse. IF you have VERY oily skin, maybe once/week if you don't scrub the living crap out of it. Technically, the product is NOT manufactured for the face. There are other LUSH facial products that can exfoliate the face, namely "Angels on Bare Skin" (and I think there's a coal-based version of that as well). I would get a sample of other exfoliators (if that's what you're going for) the next time you shop there. They should have no problem with that.

If you have acne-prone oily skin, I heartily recommend Coalface soap. That is some miracle goodness right there. The first couple of weeks I used it, all kinds of whiteheads showed up, but now I only get mild breakouts around my period, and they are MILD compared to what I used to get.

See, I've never had a problem using Ocean Salt on my face- but I don't use it every single day- probably no more than once or twice a week. I've tried Angels on Bare Skin before and I did like it. But I just liked the Ocean Salt better. The batches I've bought have not seemed too course or salty once I mixed them up really good... although once I got some from England and it had GIANT chunks of salt in it that did rip the shit out of my skin. So I tossed that I never got Ocean Salt from England again. The Canadian/American version seems much smoother. So I don't know. I guess my skin's oily enough that it doesn't bother me. Though, ironically I tried a sample of Coalface once (which is defintely for the face) and found it way too rough.
But off that topic, I will now NOT be going to friend's house this weekend after all.... LE SIGHS!! Something has come up every single weekend since this LUSH store opened to keep me from going there! It's a conspiracy I tells you! The plan is not for next weekend... But damn it, that was the plan has been for just about every weekend until it all gets shot to hell somehow. I guess the up side is my LUSH money is staying in my pocket for now. But still, I'm more than willing to part with it if the Universe would just give me a chance! Oh well, fiddle dee dee, tomorrow is another day, yadda yadda, wubba wubba, etc.

So you guys have me wanting to go to Lush and there's a store near my hair salon. I think I'm interested in the Coalface because I get weird breakouts. What else should I try? I don't like really floral scents. Is there anything I should know before my first visit that I should or shouldn't say in the store? Some stores like to put first-timers in the spotlight and I just want to check it out but don't want to miss out on any goodies they might offer.

You might want to skim their website first to get some ideas before going to the store, because depending on the store, they can often be crowded and overwhelming and sometimes the sales associates can be TOO helpful (The first time I went, I actually had two women fighting over which one was going to get to slather a sample of hand cream on me) I had more luck calling a LUSH representative on the phone, describing my issues and getting her recs one on one.
But if/when you do hit the actual store, they will usually give you samples to try before you buy. You might want to ask for samples of both Coalface and Fresh Farmacy which I've heard are both pretty good with breakout issues. The smell at a lot of stores can be overpowering because they have SOOO many good smelling, unpackaged things. It's hard to smell some of the soaps/ lotions while in the store because there are so many other things around smelling up the joint. But again, ask for samples. Usually, unless they're really busy, or low on stock the sales folks will give out samples.
And if not, another brilliant thing about the store is there are lots of products that you can buy by the ounce. So if say they wouldn't offer a sample of Coalface but you still wanted to try it, you could ask for just a couple dollars' worth and they'll slice it off the block for you. Not everything is like this, mind you. But a lot of their soaps and face cleaners are.

Has anyone on here used the henna dyes from Lush? I'm considering it, but I'm kind of worried about how messy they seem to be. And the colour. I'm pretty grey and am currently a golden brown colour.

I've read a lot about them DaisyNukem. I've wanted to try them, myself, but my hair is (unintentionally) about five different colors, now, so I don't know how it would fare. Check out the reviews on the website! I got my shipment from them a few days ago. They've turned into stingy bastards with the samples! I dropped about $90 and they sent me a tiny slice of their Big conditioner. Not cool, guys! I remember ordering about half of that before (several times) and getting at least three samples.

I always had better luck with samples when ordering from the UK, and I've even requested certain things. Lush North America sucks for samples.

Do you guys think the quality of the products is different when you do mail order vs the stores? I feel like what I get in the stores is better than what is shipped to me. (In the US, at least.) And their shipping takes forever.

And their shipping takes forever. Their shipping sucks balls. I complained when I was still employed there and they told me if I didn't like it, I should pay to upgrade the shipping time. (At that time, it took at least 3 weeks to get anything - from Toronto to Detroit. Seriously, folks?) I won't do any kind of online order with LUSH ever again. I don't use much of their stuff anymore frankly; most of the people I used to work with won't step foot inside a store ever again. I use mainly haircare. I do understand, however from reports I've read, that the quality of products shipped from the UK is considerably better than what you receive from Canada. You might want to try that. They always used to send a holiday package of new products to employees at the end of the year, and it was poorly packed, everything had either leaked or broken in transit, and much of it was completely useless.
