Not in my book. And even if it was, what's his excuse for the "jokes" about women?

This excuse doesn't apply to professional comedians. They don't just fuck around on the internet. They put some real thought into tweets. And the roast comparison is a false equivalence. It's all about context, something that pretty much doesn't exist on twitter. That's why professionals need to think twice before tweeting. A comedian needs to be smart enough to know the difference between offensive-funny and offensive-unfunny. This is basic stuff for comedians and Trevor Noah had been a comedian long enough by 2012 to know better.

Yeah this kind of garbage takes some of the shine off such an interesting choice for the show. *Tyra Banks voice* "I was rooting for you."

According to Wikipedia (...I know), his mother is half Jewish. I don't know if that's enough to deflect criticism. I'm Asian and I've made Asian jokes to friends, but I've also been smart enough to not make them in a public setting or on camera or on the Internet where they'll come back to haunt me. I wish I could say that age is a factor, but I've always been very aware that something I do at 18 can come back and haunt me when I'm in my 30s. And I know not all people are me, BUT I would have at least thought that they would have paid some intern to scrub his twitter account before they announced him as the new host. With that said though, I don't think the jokes were funny and I was offended by the one about women, but we've all said things before that will offend at least one person on earth. Do I think he should not get TDS job because of it? No, but i do think TDS needs to address his poor taste in humor when he was younger.

In my experience, even when comedians are offensive-unfunny, they still take various postures, like "it was a reference to..." or they're being ironic, or playing a character, or experimenting with boundaries, or will point to everyone who *did* think it was funny. I'm not in the mood to let this take up my headspace right now, so I'll just wait a bit and see what happens.

Sorry, I was reading an article that stated he had been hosting The Daily Show for 19 years & subtracted his age from that instead of actually checking it out myself.

In Defense of Trevor Noah... linkWhat did you think of this article, scarlet? It definitely raised some points I've been thinking about.

There does seem to be a vindictive glee of finding something to rail on a person for--especially a person who seemingly came out of nowhere. And I found myself nodding to this:
