I agree, it was really top shelf. And the new correspondent (can't remember his name) was really funny. The show needed a shot of fresh air.

I only caught the Roy Wood Jr. segment but it was hilarious.
"What can you tell us about NASA’s Mars news, Roy Wood Jr.?" “I can tell you that I don’t give a shit.”

Did he get into politics at all?

So...I thought it was okay. I don't know if it's because of the writing remaining pretty much the same, but I really felt like he was hitting all the same beats as Jon Stewart to a point where it was a little too much of an imitation. Like, WWJSD?
Not that I don't get it, I feel like John Oliver's first week or so of shows filling in were the same.
I just hope he finds his own rhythm, which I'm sure he will.

I thought the good parts were good, but I could have done with fewer dick/butt jokes, and I really didn't like the aides joke. His interview with Christie last night was pretty good because just by existing, he made Christie look incredibly desperate.

In the middle of last nights show now. And I think Roy Wood Jr is hilarious. Where has he been this whole time! Also, Jordan Klepper finally seems to feel comfortable after his early rocky months and has Really stepped up his game. I will definitely keep watching for the correspondents for sure. Jessica Williams also just keeps getting better and better though I haven't seen her yet this week.
One irk I do have about Noah, is that he laughs a little too much at his jokes. For those that have seen his stand up, is that the kind of comedian he is? Or is it nerves? I think stand ups fall in one of two categories - those that are deadpan and let the jokes sit there (better suited to the daily show) only cracking up on occasion (making it even funnier!) and those who think everything they say is hilarious. I tend to not like the latter.

I noticed that too, and from what I remember of his standup show, he wasn't the type to laugh at his own jokes. I'm thinking he might be trying emulate (or, perhaps, imitate) Jon Stewart in some way. Jon Stewart could seamlessly go off script and ad lib, giggle, self-deprecate, and interact with the audience. BUT sometimes he went overboard with all of that. Jon Stewart's style was his own, and it's not like he was always perfectly funny. Hopefully over time Trevor Noah will feel comfortable enough to just be himself (assuming he's likable, that is).

I assume he's nervous too.

I've decided to give him a little time to develop his own style and get comfortable before I tune in. It's painful to me to watch people struggle. I remember watching The Colbert Report when it was brand new and it was still working out the kinks and I felt bad for Stephen. But, dang, did he hit his groove...I miss the Colbert Report. I hope Noah finds his sweet spot soon. I couldn't imagine the pressure of having to come in behind Jon Stewart.

You know when Jon first started it was rough, same with Stephen, and Larry Whilmore is just now hitting his stride. I like what I'm seeing so far and will watch.
