Add me to the list of people who laughed and laughed at the Fat Bart episode beginning parody. Crushing the car was GOLD!
I, too, have found that the more I see an episode that I once considered lacklustre, the funnier it becomes. Not sure why that is the case.

When he crushed the car, I was rolling. Hahahaha, me too! I love jokes about fat people. Fat is funny. The episode I hated though was the highly touted episode about gay marriage. It really wasn't funny and it didn't seem to have much of a point.

I haven't watched it in years.
I did like the Beatles spoof they did. ("Baby on Board").

This is probably the only show on television that I make it a point to watch, though I'm not liking the new episodes quite as much.
The thing I miss the most about the older episodes are then genuinely beautiful and moving moments that they'd just throw in like kids playing to Beethovan's 6th symphony, or at the end of the episode where Homer and his mom reunite, when it's just Homer staring up at the stars. Those moments made the show and the characters seem much more real.

Yes, exactly. I love The Simpsons, but the new episodes just aren't doing it for me. Funny moments are nice, but I miss the heart it used to have. There were some very sweet moments that we don't get anymore.

I think they're trying but the reason it falls flat is because that was one of the first things that vanished during the Maxtone-Graham exodus. They focused too much on the family, cut out the rich supporting cast (that was getting big but then opened up the show to be much more than the Simpsons), and then the American Public overdosed on that. Then instead of bringing them back or reigning it in, the crew decided to point fun at the conventions of the show, turning it into parody. And as any good telecom student will tell you, once something goes into parody, that means the fun is over and the only thing left is for the show to die. When you're poking fun of the entire reason you have the show on in the first place, then how can one realistically expect to continue enjoying the show in the same way that they did? The illusion has been undermined and I don't think anything can really get the Simpsons back to the beginning of Season Nine to stop that and bring it back.
Still, Fat Bart was funny. But the saddest thing is despite my joy at that moment, I wasn't inspired to wake up from my after-work nap to catch the new Simpsons episodes at all. The same couldn't be said for Family Guy, and I doubt many of us old fans are now really bothered if we miss a new episode.

Ned is a never-nude!
The second episode would have been a classic if it was not for the ending.

I cracked up with all the Arrested Development references, and they had Jason Bateman in it.
It seems like the show is getting back on track, and I did laugh quite a bit.

Okay, I think this present season is a bit twisted. I just saw a preview for a rerun (Bart becomes a gangsta rapper) an the excerpt from the show was Bart saying 'now just the pimps!' and some audience member said 'no he didn't!'
And it. was supposed. to be. FUNNY.
So yeah, this last season is where they managed to turn some stuff around.
