The Simpsons

I'm a "to the bitter end Fan" of this show. I have loved this show over the years for all the inside jokes and plays on pop culture. It is a show that is deserving of praise. With that said, I have been disappointed in some of the episodes of the past seasons. I will always continue to watch because I have been a fan for so long.

Now everyone can speak on the Love, Hate and indiffence to The Simpsons.

I caught the first episode on Sunday's broadcast and I wasn't that disappointed with it (the one with the restraining order). Then again I wasn't that impressed with it either. Yeah, it had all the right elements that made the show funny--proving that the dark days of Ian Maxtone-Graham are gone forever--but I think those previous dark days have cast a dark shadow on the Simpsons that it may not be able to escape. Yeah, it's still better than most anything else on network TV nowadays, but then again that's not hard since most of the shows today are crap. Just because it stinks less doesn't make it some sort of legendary show a decade and a half later.

So, in short, the Simpsons survived the dark days where it could have be cancelled and left on a bad note. Now I've just come to the realization that what the show truly has to fear is something it cannot defeat: the tiredness of the entire concept as a whole.

It has certainly outlived itself. We watched two episodes back to back tonight and they were both Worst. Episode. Ever. I have been a diehard fan since it started but now... And is it just me, or does the whole concept now seem very dated? Jerry Seinfeld was right - wind up the show before it starts to go stale.

Okay, I finally laughed really hard at the 'Bart Gets Fat' episode where they mock the beginning, only with a fat Bart. Oh God, that was funny.

Didn't he knock Homer out of the car when he landed on it. also when he ran into Marge and she went spinning out of control. I laughed heartily during the episode.

I really, really, really love the Simpsons. I've watched it for as long as I can remember, I own the DVDs and know most episodes pretty much by heart. I never really got on the show is getting sucky bandwagon, but I don't think it's quite as fresh as it used to be. There are only a certain number of storylines possible. I will keep watching as long as it's on, but in a way, I wish they'd wrap it up sooner rather than later. It really has had it's heyday. I thought last nights episodes were good though. I also think some of the episodes get better with numerous viewings Case and point, the Africa episode in season 12 (I think). I hated it when it came on, but since the original airing I've watched it about 3 or 4 more times and I like it now. Anyway, I'm excited to see how the show goes the next few years, it really is sort of a part of my life. I feel like I've grown up with it, it would be weird for it not to be on anymore.

Oh yeah, I was dying when he crushed Homer's car and then started complaining that his heart felt like it was in a vise. Then Homer goes "Marge, our little boy is IN LOVE!!"

Tears. Laughter with TEARS! Freaking brilliant.

You know, maybe the reason the Simpsons is having problems with storylines is that they're not really using the extensive cast they've built up through the last sixteen years. Come on, there's got to be a few more stories involving Apu, Burns & Smithers, Nelson, Ralph, Milhouse, etc. Come on, they appear in nearly every episode, why not revolve some episodes around them again?
