I just downloaded acquired Rahsaan Patterson " Love in Stereo". Off the strength of "Sure Boy" (which to me sounds a lot like Van Hunt's "Hello Goodbye" for some reason).
Who's late to the party as usual........

I've just bought Teedra Moses' album, Complex Simplicity. She has a lovely voice, really soft with no showboating. I thought the album was a bit samey tune wise but I think she is definitely one to watch. Anyone agree?

I would love to comment, but these artists I haven't heard of at all.
I went to Amazon to check out Patterson, and I thought he sounded a bit like Kenny "Baby Face" Edmonds.
Nothing to knock me off of my feet, though, because we already have a Baby Face.
Also, I checked out Teedra, and she sounds just like those souless acts on Soul Train in some parts of the cd. On small parts of the clips, she shows she has potential.
What she suffers from the most is poor songs.

Yeah....came out in 99. Not sure why I never bothered to check him out. Let there never be a soul thread w/o Eric Roberson being mentioned. Ok...mentioned. We're good. ---------- ETA: where does Esthero fit in? Not soul, I guess. We gotta talk about "Wikkid Lil Grrls".

Hey, that E Roberson site crashed my computer. The bit I did hear sounded all-ight.
What I can tell from Roberson, Patterson, and Moses is that they sound too mediocre to me. Usually, I'm a bit slow with artists like that and it takes repeat listenings.
However, the ones that I am slow to attached to, tend to not have a stellar career.
Not to say that you are great only if you are top of the charts, but rising high on the charts does keep you around for a while.
To get a better understanding of what I like to hear, these are my favorite modern artists: D'angelo, Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott, Angie Stone, India Arie, Joss Stone, Tracy Chapman, Sade, and such.
Old favorites: Sam Cooke, Aretha, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, BB King, William Bell, Otis Redding, Dolly Parton, Roberta Flack, Randy Travis, Etta James, Nina Simone, Patsy Cline, and such

I never listen to the radio either.
I've been playing this new 112 CD nonstop. (I do luh 112.) They aren't an outstanding group. They're solid. I always HATE their singles (with the exception of "cupid" and "only you"). So usually I just take their obviously for the radio songs out of the mix and play the rest of the CD. Always a good mix. I know "Hot & Wet" only sold about 300k (a big falloff from 1 million on the one before that). I didn't buy that mess. They really shouldn't go for the oversexed songs (though that's usually what their singles are). But yeah, they kill those midtempo/ballads.
Roberson is another solid type of guy. Not outstanding. Great lyricist. I saw him live. Excellent. Delivers good music each outing (two so far, I guess).
I am cool to Angie Stone ....though she did get my $15 for each of her CD's (sigh). Something about her just gives off this "look at me and my real soul self!". I get it, Angie....you're soul. OK.
Back to 112, though. Underrated.

I have to agree about Angie, but she gets my money too. What really bugs about Stone Love is the fact that she thinks she has to mix it up - do it all.
When in fact, she doesn't have the skills to do it. She just needs to do it one thing right.
I loved Mahogony, but everything else Stone Love and Black Diamonds don't compare.
Yes, Stone Love had one good song, "U-Haul", and I don't know what Black Diamonds have, because I only listen once.
I just wish that child she had with D'angelo will grow up real soon to make one hell of a cd. I think Mahogony surprised Angie

Is there a special website where you can hear this "noncommercial" music, because I am really astounded on how people find this music.
Usually, I stumble upon new music through the familiar routes, radio, store, and recommendation.
