Michael "I am unkillable even though I'm a regular old human being, which makes no sense whatsoever" Meyers ever could. Isn't that the same for Jason? Perhaps I need to brush up on my classic horror movie info. (I haven't seen any of these in forever.) I can't wait for this to come out. Woooooo! Jason's supernatural. He goes from being a kid (what 12 years old?) who's dead, and comes out of the lake at the end. To being a full grown adult man--who has access to a machete. I'm not sure where one would even buy a machete, but he just has it handy.

Yes. One does not question the machete.
I like the newer films, too. Jason X featuring Uber-Jason? Unintentionally hilarious! Even though Uber-Jason just isn't as creepy as regular hockey-mask Jason. I also have a soft spot for Freddy v. Jason because it was the first Friday movie I saw on the big screen.
I'm weird in that, while I enjoy slasher movies, I don't like them because of the killing scenes and gore, but despite them. I just like the moments where you see Jason slowly stalking the victims, and there's all this suspense, and everybody's basically going, "Where the fuck is that goalie now, and why is he so pissed off?" At least the Jason movies aren't as gory as, say, Hostel or Saw. I don't think I could stomach the scenes otherwise.

In fact, I think most people do, or did, because before this "torture porn" crap came along, very few horror movies were all about the gore. There was a lot more suspense and a lot less "watch the bad guy pull out the victim's eyeball while also cutting his arm off!!1! It's sooo disgusting!!1!" shit. That's what worries me about this remake, that it will be just another torture porn flick, no different from all the other crappy horror movies that come out today. "Friday the 13th" is a legend in the horror genre and shouldn't be reduced to another "Look how gross this movie is!" movie. I'm also afraid they will try to make it funny with annoying sarcastic characters and in-jokes. I hate horror movies that try to be funny. I've heard that the original title of the first movie was "Long Night at Camp Blood". LOL. Not very catchy.

I am weird because I am not at all scared or grossed out by Saw because it is so over the top and unlikely. But Friday the 13th and its ilk scare the shit out of me. It is the suspense and the reality that someone really could be out there with a knife (or a machete). ETA: In Friday the 13th, Part 3 in 3-D, Jason crushes some guys skull and the eyeball flew out at the audience, I was pretty grossed out by that.

The first one scared me. The rest, not so much. But they did entertain me.

My friends think I'm weird because I love the Jason movies, but don't like watching the actual killing scenes that much. They're all, "You like slasher movies, but don't like the slashing? WTF?" *cough* Well, I thought the first Scream movie was awesome. But it's almost like comparing apples and oranges.

I hate horror movies that try to be funny too.
Horror movies that are so over the top, horrible, and "oh my God who thought this premise would be a good movie?" on the other hand...
I think that's why I'm entertained by the later Jason movies. They're awful--but while they're awful, they're also very funny and quite enjoyable .

Ok, I have never seen a Friday the 13 movie. (I know, I know.) Can someone explain what's up with this new one--what makes it different from the original? It just seems like a waste of a production. I hate that.

Ok, I have never seen a Friday the 13 movie. (I know, I know.) Can someone explain what's up with this new one--what makes it different from the original? Since the first movie is almost 30 years old now I hope I don't have to put "spoiler alert" before this. -in the original "Friday the 13th", the killer was not Jason Voorhees, it was his mother, Pamela Voorhees. Pamela wanted revenge on all Camp Crystal Lake counsellors because Jason drowned at Camp Crystal Lake and she blamed them for it. Alice, the last surviving counsellor, chopped off Pamela's head. The second movie opened with Jason killing Alice for killing his mother. (After that there isn't really much story except "Jason is an unstoppable killing machine and he's gonna kill everbody".) The remake differs because the trailers show Jason in it. I don't know if they've left Pamela out of the story or if they are going to show it in flashbacks, or what. But it will definately be different than the original since Jason is in it. I feel like a hypocrite because I said I thought this movie looked awful but now that I've seen commercials for it on t.v. I can't wait to see it. I can't help it, I love "Friday the 13th" movies! Even if they suck.

My favorite parts of the series were the horrible attempts at modern teen dialog and fashion.
Crispin Glover in Part 4, for example.
