I thought I would resurrect this thread. This thread is all about those moments in movies that only make sense much much later! These often are elements that are hidden, obscured, or are double entendres that we may have missed the first time around. One example is all the sexual references in Grease that many people did not realize were there.
If I could think of a new example... I .. so .. would.. uh, share it. Ha.

I just got that Tom Servo from MST3K is named after an actual machine type part. A servo is a little thing that directs a shaft, and tells the shaft to stay at a particular angle, or to move (I learned this when Mr. Bones talked about the servos in his RC plane). All this time, I didn't know a servo was even a thing, never mind a machine oriented thing. Duh.

I can't tell you how many times I had to watch "The Matrix" before I got the whole 'awakening' sequence - that he was literally being removed from his little pod and taken up into the ship. I thought it was just a hallucination for the longest time...you should've seen the look on my husband's face when I shouted out "Ohmygod - so this is, like, really happening to Neo?" Duh.
Sure helped to explain why he then had to lay around on a table with a billion needles stuck in him for days, though.

Word to your post sunnish. I was pretty young when I first saw this in the theater and all I remembered was the singing and dancing. Then I saw it when I was older and couldn't believe my mom took me to see it. "Sloppy seconds"? Geesh.

Yes, I was in shock when I rewatched Grease when I was older. Sexual inuendos all over the place. Just the song "Grease Lightning" had me in shock. Ahhhh, to be young and naive again.

I watched Goonies for the frillionth time last weekend. The pirate's name is One-Eyed Willie? Color me shocked. Best penis-related character name since Master Bates in Oliver Twist.

Count me in as another one late to understanding this. As in, about two weeks ago. My boyfriend mocked me. Well, really, I was innocent-minded and the pirate had one eye!

Hee! That reminds me of a kids' show I used to watch, darned if I can remember the name. There was a character by the name of Seaman Staines.
