The trailer is now up - I linked it in the movie trailer forum. I've enjoyed the books for the most part and the trailer just confirms all the fears about the miscasting. Heigl in particular doesn't work and I don't buy her accent at all. Debbie Reynolds is just a different character and the guy playing Ranger is cute, but not book Ranger - not intimidating.

I liked it actually. I think the tone seems very similar to the books. They're meant to be fun and frothy and I got that from this. I agree that Ranger isn't nearly intimidating enough. I think Heigl looks pretty good though.

I just posted pretty much the same thing in the trailers thread. It looks fun. And I take back what I said about O'Mara – it wasn't as jarring as I thought it'd be seeing him as Morelli. Ranger's not intimidating enough (he should be a little more "dangerous" seeming), but I have a lot of goodwill for Sunjata from my love of "Rescue Me."
Ditto. And I don't know who is playing Stephanie's dad, but he had me cracking up.

I think the cast looks great but then I only read the first book and was pretty meh about it so am not too invested in any of the characters.

As many feared, it's apparently shit.

As many feared, it's apparently shit. That review is more damaging to the plot/writing than to Heigl (though it's not kind to her). That makes me sad, because the story is so silly/funny and should be charming, but I guess it's missing it's mark If I didn't know that there was a Groupon, I might wait for this on Netflix. But I still have goodwill towards Heigl and Janet Evanovich, so I might shell out the six bucks (movies at my local theatre are $16 now, but that's another story).

Never read books but I think a groupon is a bad sign for a movie, no?

Saw it tonight. I liked it. My judgement may be clouded by how much much I liked Heigl with dark hair. Like her anyway, but the dark hair moves her up a few notches on my "Rosie Perez List".
Debbie Reynolds wasn't bad, but she didn't have much to work with. I always pictured Estelle Getty, but that's not gonna happen, is it?
TrafficChick hasn't read the books, so she had no preconceptions. She seemed to like it ok. I asked her if she had any trouble "choosing" between Morelli and Ranger. Unequivocal no. Movie Morelli did nothing for her. She was mostly annoyed by how young Morelli was supposed to be, and clearly isn't.
I will say-Rex was perfectly cast!

Saw this today with my daughter. We both liked it. Katherine Heigl grew on us. She seems to have taken over the RomCom movies from Jennifer Aniston. But, unlike Aniston, I don't see KH on the screen in her movies, I see the character. With Aniston, I am always aware that it is "Aniston" up there.
I, too always pictured Estelle Getty as Grandma Mazur! The only problem we had with Jason O'Mara was that he seemed too old in some scenes and he had blue eyes, not brown. I believe on his rap sheet it even said he had brown eyes. And yes, Rex was perfectly cast. That's exactly how I always pictured him!

I haven't seen it yet (planning to go this week with my mom), but I'm super excited that Rex is in it.
