Hope it's okay to start a thread already. While I'm okay with Daniel Sunjata as Ranger, Heigl and O'Mare are just...wrong. This movie would be infinitely better had it been made ten years ago with Sandra Bullock, Benjamin Bratt, and the Rock.

The Rock would've been a perfect Ranger. When the character is described in the book, The Rock is who I pictured. I always see the actor who played Christopher on the Sopranos as Morelli and I'm not sure about Stephanie. Sandra comes across as way more street smart and intelligent than I picture Stephanie. To me she came across as massively stupid in the book. She seems like more of any Amy Adams type character.

I really never liked the idea of The Rock for Ranger. I feel like the Rock is almost too transparently good-natured. Ranger needs to be harder to grasp, more mysterious.
I never had anyone in particular in mind for Morelli, but despite him being Italian, in my head he was more just of a rugged, typical, blue-collar type guy. I could kind of see him as Jeffrey Dean Morgan actually, if he wasn't too old for the part and if I wasn't already tired of seeing him with Heigl.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan would have been good for Morelli, maybe 10 years ago? Bobby Canavale would have a better choice than Jason O'Mara, at least ethnically. Whenever I read the books, I always imagine a younger Wes Studi for Ranger or a younger Benjamin Bratt.

I had to Google Daniel Sunjata, but as soon as his picture came up I recognized him and definitely like him as Morelli. I'm not please with the casting of Heigl. I picture Stephanie short and a little pudgy. Not fat, just not tall and thin like Heigl.

Stephanie describes herself as 5'7" and about 130 lbs (and later 125-127) in the book. That's like a size 4-6.

Morelli always looked very Italian in my head. That dude looks, well, Irish. So far they really aren't knocking my socks off with the casting. I hope they at least get Lulu right.

Oops. You're right. I meant Ranger and typed Morelli.
For some reason I don't remember her description of herself other than the hair. Hmm. I just pictured her completely different from Heigl.

In one early book, she describes herself as "not dainty", and says that she comes from "solid, Hungarian peasant stock". I always pictured her as a little bit thick, more of a Cheryl Burke body type, definitely not willowy blonde Heigl. I like Daniel Sunjata, I do, but he is not Ranger. Everyone in the books is always calling him "Rambo", and there's that great line in the second book: "I hated to burst his fantasy bubble, but the only time Ranger wouldn't look out of place is standing in a lineup between Rambo and Batman". But, I knew there wasn't a snowball's chance in Hell they'd cast this thing correctly, anyway.

I always pictures Stephanie as curvy and solid enough, but certainly not chubby. Just not model thin.
And honestly, in that regard, Heigl is a good choice. However, I think Heigl is too pretty. I always pictured Stephanie as girl-next-door attractive, not Hollywood beautiful. Certainly pretty, but not a stunning head-turner.
And Stephanie has absolutely no guile. I don't know how Heigl is going to pull that off. She really doesn't seem like she can let loose and lose her natural primness.
