I agree that this episode was good, but not as strong as the pilot. The racist guy was a little too on the nose for me. And he is totally gonna be back - they made to much of a point showing that they left the bag of tools behind.
On the plus side, I really like Glen. With the hat and the backpack, he looks like the kid from "Up" all grown up and slimmed down.
I kinda don't care about the storyline but I do wonder how long Lori has been donking Shane. The fact that she wants to keep it secret says it is recent, but I don't know. So far I don't like Lori because I don't get what motivates her.

Not as tension-filled as the premiere, but still good. I really dislike Rick's wife and partner, even though I don't know when & how they became lovers, I find them distasteful.
Poor Rick really is a dumbass, isn't he (as Glenn said more than once), yet I'm still rooting for him.
Why are they so concerned about people getting infected, then they stand around with bare faces while Rick hacks into a zombie with an axe? Only afterwards does he tell them to be careful, and that's for while they are smearing guts on him and Glenn. Seriously? The people using bats knew to wear face shields, sheesh. The whole time all I could think was "cover your faces!!" and "get out of that room!!".

The zombie-hacking scene was pretty stupid. They had saws and knives, so why use an axe? Even if there wasn't any blood pumping through the body, stuff still would have sprayed and splattered up on them. That was just a gratuitous gross-out scene.
The premiere was better than this episode overall, but I was on the edge of my seat there at the end. I was sure one of them was going to get it when they were getting into the truck.

Count me in as another who thought this episode was a bit of a letdown. I loved the premier but thought it was pretty unoriginal but I figured it was the first episode, they had to set up the premise. But this episode too just felt like a rehash of better zombie movies. What is the point of doing a tv show if you aren't going to do something original and break out of the cliches? That entire scene on the roof made me uncomfortable, and left a really bad taste in my mouth. I know they're going for gritty, and can get away with harsh language, but it was a little too over the top for my liking. Not the N-bombs. Just that the racist/bully act was sooo over the top. See I thought this character could have had some potential. A paranoid survivalist who actually does have to face the end of the world. But it went over the top way too quickly. Just a complete stupid cartoon. And he has a brother. Yay. On the positive side I really liked Glen. And Rick is growing on me (although his accent still bugs). I am looking forward to his reunion with his wife and her lover.

I'm a huge fan of Michael Rooker and his ability to push his odious characters to the very edge of believability and think his turn as the racist douche toed the line fairly well. I thought the premiere was terrific -- helLO, Andrew Lincoln and his perfect fur (and beard)! -- but this one was... well, it was 5 minutes of plot stretched to 50.

I saw Shaun of the Dead too! With both episodes of this I think "I should watch that zombie movie I love..." Which disturbs me. Since I already own Shaun, the Dawn of the Dead remake and my ultimate favorite, 28 Days Later. I like the show but how far can it go (even in six eps)?

Well, since it's set in the south they could introduce musical interludes and have the zombies break out into a spontaneous line dance ( a la Dead And Breakfast )

They keep showing the image of the highway leading into and out of Atlanta with one side totally jammed with cars and the other totally open.
So, if you're in the middle of the zombie apocalypse, and you're trying to get out of town, and the side of the freeway that normally leads out of town is totally jammed, wouldn't you use the other side, and go against the normal flow of traffic -- because, reasonably, by that point, nobody is coming into town, right?
So, BOTH side of the freeway should be equally jammed with cars trying to make it out!
For some reason this glaring oversite is annoying me.

Perhaps in a emergency evacuation they need one side of the highway open for military vehicles to go into the city?
