Adam creeps me out too. He reminds me of an ex in some ways so I know that's part of it, but he is way too intense. I keep waiting for him to kill someone.
I think I'm officially done with the show. There's no comedy at all, the characters are unlikable, and the plot isn't that great. If Lena Dunham insists on having the same 3 guys on the show it's really difficult for the girls to move forward. You can't have them bumping into their exes multiple times a season.
Plus, I'm all for Lena showing off her non-Hollywood body, but I don't feel compelled to watch someone pick a giant splinter out of their ass. When I saw that, I was like, "WTF am I watching this?"

I finished season 2, it was WAY worse than season one. I didn't like how this season ended, Marnie and Hannah were basically "saved" by men. Hannah called up Adam and basically asked him to come save her because she'd fucked up her life so much and her parents were treating her like a (gasp) grown up. Adam should have hung up on her, instead he "rescues" her, basically infantilizing her. So much for feminism.

I feel like the show missed out on the opportunity to redeem Marnie's character, big-time. She was so annoying in season one, but then this season she started loosening up and becoming more relatable once she lost her job. I think that hooking up with Booth should have been more of a self-exploration thing than the humiliating spectacle that it turned into, and the foray into singing was just embarrassing. They could have shown her spiraling but then had her overcome it herself and be on the track to figuring out what she really wants before just throwing her back with Charlie. If they had wanted to put them back together eventually, fine, but at least let Marnie become her own person first.
Also, things REALLY went downhill once Elijah left. He brought some much-needed levity to the show and especially to Hannah.

Yeah, what the hell is going on there - is it supposed to be edgy and cool now to be a damsel in distress? Is that some reverse/perverse feminism message?

He brought some much-needed levity to the show and especially to Hannah. Amen to that. I binge watched season 1 to catch up to real-time season 2 and boy did I miss Andrew Rannells. I feel bad that I feel I spend so much time praising the men cast on this show but they are an area of strength for the show. Elijah is just as unlikeable as Hannah but Rannells makes him sooooo entertaining. His exit was the last time I laughed during the show. I'm not sure they needed to redeem Marnie. Marnie's atrocious behaviour was validated by Charlie going back to her, but I think it opens up an opportunity to see Marnie smug and superior in a way that she wasn't entirely comfortable being in S1,when she had relationship angst. No longer worried about how much better she can do than Charlie should provide Marnie with all sorts of ways to dismiss the people around her. I have to admit I think Allison Williams plays Marnie best when she's a bit more like the actress (imho) herself: transparent opportunist.

Christopher Abbott's career is taking off so I can see why he might not want to play the cuckhold on Girls anymore. And also, Lena Dunham seems really, really, really fond of Adam Driver and Alex Karpovsky so maybe Abbott was feeling shortchanged in the character development department. I'll miss his beautiful face but not as much as I miss Elijah.

I mean, I think Driver & Karpovsky are interesting, but Abbott was my cutie factor. And it seemed his storyline was just about to blossom with Marnie. Has he suddenly gotten a lot of film deals? I don't judge him for leaving, but I always wonder about these things when they happen out the blue. I guess he didn't have a contract...?

I read that he got into it with Lena because he didn't like the direction she was taking his character in season three. I wonder what it could possibly be? I don't consider it any big loss for him to leave, since I hated his character in season one and was just "meh" on him in season two. I don't get the supposed cuteness either, I just think he looks okay since he on the show he is only up against (IMO) the spectacularly unattractive Ray and Adam. Maybe this way they can at least do something interesting with Marnie so that we don't have to watch her grow bored with Charlie all over again. I'm assuming they haven't filmed anything for season 3 yet? I wonder how they are going to explain Charlie's absence.
