Weird, my post disappeared. I think he's one of those actors who has to be photographed at the right angle in the right outfit. Sometimes I think, "Oh yes, he can get it immediately." Other times he looks like a lizard & he freaks me out. He has flattering pix in the Star Trek Entertainment Weekly, IMO. I like the Benadryl Crumblebread combo.

I've honestly never seen a great photo of him, although admittedly I haven't seen him in the Entertainment Weekly spread. The best I've ever seen him look was in this. I think the hair length/facial hair suits him. He put on some muscle for Star Trek so perhaps that's why he photographs better in costume.

Has anyone seen the little film Wreckers? BC delivers one of the scariest performances I have ever seen. His character is so sensitive and charming and kind on the surface that you barely even notice that he's manipulative and an abuser. In the end he presumably also gets away with murder. And he's so good with all that that his victims don't notice the abuse and when they do they have difficulty even articulating what is going on, nevermind defending themselves against him.
And in the end he's presumably killed his brother and his wife and their little baby are stuck with him. You have the scary realization as viewer that his wife will probably never get away from him, he'll make her constantly doubt herself and even if she tries to say something, no one will believe her. He will always get away with everything because he's just so "kind and nice and sensitive". His performance there is absolutely chilling. It's so quiet and subtle, but conveys this creeping horror. I mean, I think he's been outstanding in almost anything he's done on screen, but his work in that film just blew me away.

He was excellent in the film although I kind of disagree that he was the only villain in the piece. I think that he, his brother, and wife are terrible human beings. It's a quiet little piece and I hope he continues with these small projects.

My only real thought about his looks are, he's lucky he's a man. But I do think his voice is awesome and he's a terrific actor.

I don't watch Girls, but all the articles I've nonetheless seen that are either outraged about or defending the believability of Lena Dunham's character having sex with a hottie remind me of how very lucky Cumberbatch is indeed to be a man in Hollywood with that face. All these other names are hilarious. There seem to be differenf ones used on Ontd every other post. Normally I don't care much for ONTD nicknames (some actors may have changed their names, but most can't help what they were born with), but Cumberbatch's privileged complaints about how posh people have it so hard made me appreciate this article that gave us Rinkydink Curdlesnoot and inspired more ONTD creativity.

I "met" him last year at a pre-oscar party. He was incredibly unpretentious and witty.I mention that because celebrities usually aren't interested in talking to "the help". (I was working will call). I also found him much better looking in person. (I do not find him attractive in pictures).

He also comes across as genuinely bewildered by L.A. celeb culture so I don't think it's a shock that he was witty and without pretense. I know ONTD thinks he's the snottiest thing ever but I just think it's his visceral response to the (ugly) British press and not a real sense of entitlement.

He has what I'd call genuine charisma.

Great article. He reminds me of Dan Stevens, in that they seemed to go from working actor to incredibly famous actor overnight, and the fame hit them harder than expected. They're trying to work their way through it, but now they're in a total fishbowl. I get the impression Stevens wants to go back to theater & never do something as huge as DA again.
