I love Ghostbusters. It is one of those movies that if I am flipping and come upon, I have to stop what I am doing to watch. I even have a Ghostbusters poster in my rec room.

I have never seen the original Ghostbusters from start to finish. I obviously could have remedied that but I just didn't care. I am interested in this partially for the casting and also because I won't have to compare it to anything. Oh no..the overall theme of this message makes me sad. Ghostbusters is a fantastic movie. You can watch it totally straight or totally silly, and it still is funny. Not necessarily why I love the movie overall, but it makes a difference. And my college degree is very tied to the Ghostbusters. No, I get it--I didn't see Star Wars until I was 23, and since then I've only seen the new one and the 'original' one that came out first. I don't think missing Ghostbusters (or Star Wars) is something that has defined my existence, or anything I'm resisting, but as a child, I probably didn't see it in the theaters because I was eight or so the summer it came out*, and I have two younger sisters, and it was probably too scary for a four year old, or my parents were feeling contrary or disinterested, so it passed me by. I know the theme song and a lot of the references, and my current town has a local Ghostbusters club, so it *feels* like I've seen the movie. As an adult, Bill Murray really puts me off for no specific reason. That said, I don't think it's unfeminist to not like a movie because the trailers don't look good. However, I would be lying if there wasn't an element of 'male tears' that gives me a slight thrill to all of this. Related, the only Indiana Jones movie I've seen is Crystal Skull, which I thought was hilarious and interesting because I LOVED Chariots of the Gods? by Erich von Däniken, so I was delighted to see some of those topics woven into the story. I know my opinion is fringe, but I'm not especially interested in the rest of the series, other than maybe the Nazi one. All that aside, how is your college degree tied into Ghostbusters? I would love to know! : D *Actually, I just checked. My family took an elaborate vacation that summer, which probably explains why I didn't see it--my parents were probably too broke and/or exhausted to go to the movies, even if they were interested, which I don't think they were.

I saw th original Ghostbusters as a kid at a drive-in. I had also lost a tooth earlier that day and was trying to figure out how to eat my jujyfruits without bothering the raw hole in my gums.
Weirdly, I also saw Indiana Jones after I lost a tooth (rather, after my mom yanked it out). All the classics are tied in my mind to raw, bleeding holes in my gums.

I loved the original Ghostbusters but always thought (don't hit me) the end was kind of lame. I can't wait to see the updated special effects with this new one and any other changes. I too am a little burned out on Wiig and McCarthy but hope with four main actors they won't bug as much.
I'm a little conflicted when Hollywood proposes to do remakes, some films shouldn't be touched but others it sure wouldn't hurt to redo them, especially with a new take on casting.

Just read the novelization by Nancy Holder, and it appears the story leak controversy from earlier this year gave us an accurate rendering of the plot. So, um, that cuts down on my enthusiasm for the film quite a bit. (Incidentally, I've read better novelizations; it was pure fan fiction.) On the bright side, the book suggests that the characterization will emphasize the characters actually being friends, not doing that stereotypical women as frienemies crap. No shortage of science jokes, either, which doesn't hurt. Still, not great news for me.

The lines on the dress are very simple and classic, which infuriates me. Was that so hard, fashion people? She looks fabulous.

The reviews are coming in and they seem to range from "it's pretty good" to "eh, it's okay." I've only seen one review that thought it was absolutely terrible.
Might be worth a matinee, but I probably won't run out opening weekend.
