The most common criticism seems to be that the script is uninspired and tries too hard to pay homage to the original Ghostbusters. There is near universal praise for McKinnon's performance, but Wiig gets saddled with the straight woman role and falls flat.
Saving this one for Netflix.

I plan on skipping this. It is mostly because having seen the original in theaters, I to this day don't see what all the hype was back then. I was a freshman in college and think the principles all have done better work. I am truly sorry if that offends anyone on here.

Thanks to the magic of cable television, I watched the second part of the original and the first half of II. All other commentary aside, I love Annie Potts and was glad to see she has a credit in the 2016 edition.

Cable tv is playing the original a lot, and frankly, I don't see what the fuss is about. It's a pretty cheesy movie. The acting seems almost Airplane-esque, as if they thought it was a spoof and not a legit ghost comedy. (Heh, legit ghost comedy?)
So I don't see what all the fanboy angst is about. Better things than Ghostbusters have been remade.

I saw it today and liked it much more than I thought I would.
The movie takes a pretty sharp change in tone during the last act and it really gets exciting. Part of me wonders if it was planned that way but even if it weren't, they really finish strongly.

Saw it tonight and absolutely loved it. Lots of laughs, a few genuine scares and some kickass action. What's not to love? Wiig wasn't annoying for once and Leslie Jones stole the movie. She was a riot.

We just got back from seeing it. We all really liked it! Funny and some great special effects. Leslie was awesome and I LOVED Kate McKinnon. I thought Wiig and McCarthy were solid as well and the cameos rocked it, especially Sigourney Weaver's.

The cameos were great. Apparently, Ivan Reitman's kids got cameos since he's passed. The only person I don't remember seeing was Rick Moranis.

I don't think Rick Moranis was in it, he's basically retired from acting. I thought it was sweet of them to dedicate the movie to Harold Ramis.
I also loved it, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones were definitely the stand-outs of the cast.
And as a resident of Boston I found it amusing to spot Boston scenery dressed up to look like NYC. The restaurant they were drinking at towards the end is a German place that I go to fairly frequently, it's one of the oldest restaurants in the city and it was very recognizable. They didn't bother to disguise it much. I thought that was funny.
