I didn’t mind mentioning the pandemic but they had a continuity issue. They used some scenes from last season to tell the story. No way those cops wouldn’t have been wearing masks when they brought Rebecca back to the house. I think they should have waited till the next episode to include it. That was my concern too, when the police were inside the cabin, they weren't wearing a mask. I also am with everyone else who are over the pandemic stuff and are trying to escape it by using the TV. At the same time though, this show has always been very present. It would be odd if they didn't mention all the current news on TV. If anything, I probably would have been able to tolerate the pandemic stuff, if I knew Kevin and Randall were okay. The stability in this show, at least for me, has always been the relationship of the 3. They may fight and get angry at each other, but their love for each other has always risen to the surface. And I call BS on his mom still being alive. Like how could that news not have resurfaced at some point in William's life. ETA: I watched season 4 off and on, and I'm actually shocked that Kevin would say something so hurtful to Randall. Kevin is narcissistic and selfish, but he also loves his siblings deeply. It seemed so out of character for him to say that the worse day of his life was when randall was brought home. Was there at least build up to the deteriorating relationship of those two and the hatefulness of Kevin?

Was there at least build up to the deteriorating relationship of those two and the hatefulness of Kevin? If memory serves, Kevin was upset that Randall thought he was the only one who had any say so in Rebecca’s care. Rebecca did not want to take part in the trial of the treatment Randall found because she would have to go to St Louis for it, and she wanted to spend whatever good days she had left with her children and grandchildren. Randall bullied her into agreeing to it by telling her she owed him because he took care of her after Jack and that she kept him away from William so she wed him. Kevin confronted him. Randall said Kevin was a shitty actor and son. I’m sure there was some other stuff, but the guilting Rebecca into the clinical trial was what did it.

I think Randall resented that he had to be the "good son" while Kevin ran off to be an actor.
So here's Kevin, he has a one night stand and suddenly he's in love and wants to get married to Madison? Nope.

Anyone else still hanging in on this show?
Another near standalone episode where we learn all about a character who is peripherally linked to the main characters, but whose life story really doesn't further the plot except to add yet another layer of angst to Randall. It would have been a fine story as a movie or a different tv show, but given that we didn't see hide nor hair of any other main characters until the tail end, it just felt like a tangent.
People are speculating the pandemic and Mandy Moore's pregnancy might be affecting how much the other storylines can be explored right now due to filming limitations, but I'd rather the show just go on hiatus than keep branching out to include more and more people's backstories.

With all the stuff going on right now, I have decided I can't emotionally handle this show. It used to make me cry on a weekly basis and I just need something funny or uplifting. I saw it on my DVR and didn't even try to watch it. I feel like I've seen the complete stories of the main characters too.

I'm still watching, and don't mind the extra layers of backstory. We are all the sum of our parts, after all.
I do wonder if it will be revealed that she had another child at some point, so Randall has a half sib out there. That seems typical for these types of shows.

They laid out her story pretty well in this episode, so a 'surprise' kid would be a bit eye-rolling. This episode was fine. I prefer the present day stories, so not my favorite, but hopefully that closes the door on Randall's question marks about his bio parents. Oh, and the guy playing young Hai was HOT!!!

I feel like we passed eye-rolling with the "mom wasn't actually dead" reveal, a mere handful of episodes after the "Jack's brother wasn't actually dead" reveal. I keep waiting for the biggest reveal of all...that Jack isn't dead either. I'm still waiting for the backstory on how Miguel and Rebecca wound up together, but I guess as long as Mandy Moore is pregnant, we're not getting that one.

It feels like last night's episode hinted that we will finally learn How Miguel Met Rebecca, you know outside a Cars song. Kevin and Madison's relationship continues to not make much sense. Madison did not know that Actors go to far off places to work? Madison did not know that Actors have love scenes? Kevin continues to be able to afford first class anything, even though "The Manny" ended 5 years ago. (I'm assuming he wasn't making Friends / Seinfeld syndicated money.)

The way they reference that show, I can believe he was making good money for a number of years. Plus, he was in that blockbuster a couple years ago. Out of all the things this show asks me to buy, this one I can hand-wave away. I really hope we do get Miguel and Rebecca's love story. Feels like that's got to be on deck (next season when MM isn't hiding her baby belly anymore).
