This past episode was one of the best in awhile, IMO. Minimal fluff, a little more insight in Rebecca and Miguel's beginning as a couple and some really good Kate/Rebecca stuff, truly realistic, heart-breaking stuff. Also a cameo by my favorite version of young Kate, that actress is so good.
I was initially disinterested in the Deja/Malik storyline, but it also got interesting. I see both sides of it, Beth comparing them to her and Randall at their ages. But also, without knowing the future and if Malik and Deja really will work out, I can understand why Randall is afraid she's ruining her life.

I thought Deja was a total smug brat in this episode.
Really liked the Rebecca/Miguel and Rebecca/Kate scenes. The last scene with three versions of R/K at the piano got me in the feels.

I thought Deja was a total smug brat in this episode. Really liked the Rebecca/Miguel and Rebecca/Kate scenes. The last scene with three versions of R/K at the piano got me in the feels. Well apparently the punishment for being a brat is being written out of the next episode because not a peep was uttered in this episode about the gauntlet Deja threw down in the last episode. Instead we got one of the dumbest episodes in the show's history with an out-of-character Beth acting like an entitled brat over her failed dance career, which I just can't bring myself to care about. Beth's father dying when she was young is of course sad and if her grief made her turn away from dance and in turn, her former mentor focused his attention on a girl who was still immersed in the dance world, I really can't blame that dance teacher and don't think he earned a middle of the night phone call 20 years after the fact. It seems like the show wanted me to think Beth was amazing in this episode and while I usually do think that of Beth, this was the worst display I've ever seen from her all the way through. And while Beth is Randall's wife, I just do not see what this storyline has to do with any of the other million main plot lines that haven't advanced despite this being the last season. There is a finite number of episodes left and I'd like to see how a lot of things wrap up, but they just keep diverting down these other roads instead of moving forward with the family stuff. On a shallow note, the actor who plays teenage Kevin is getting downright beefy. I can't tell if that's intentional because he's supposed to be developing an alcohol problem in those years, but I find it hard to believe that someone trying to break into the LA acting scene is going to let his looks deteriorate like that.

and Susan Kalechi Watson co-wrote last week's episode, as her "Good Bye" to Beth!
We have one tonight and then another 2 weeks until the next one, so yes, they really are running out of time. I will really miss them, though.

They stuck the landing. I loved it. The shaving scene had me tearing up, as my Dad is currently in the hospital, and I remember him teaching me to shave waaaayyyy back in the 80s. Such a wonderful show.

The BIG MOMENTS were last week and, as was last night's theme, it's the little moments that needed remembering. Favorite parts:
- Nicky telling Kevin he "effed up" his life by making him a person who cares about people, lol.
- Beth doing the worst case scenario game with Randall that had him driving around the country (and Puerto Rico to go "swimming with Miguel's mother") to commemorate all his dead parents
- The Kevin/Kate/Randall porch talk. Something about them reciting their "BIG THREE!" childhood poem, complete with chest thump, was really touching.
- Jack telling Rebecca she would "be there" for all the moments, but that it was hard to explain, but she would understand once she experienced it.

I DID think the final scene should have been The Big Three on the porch after they did The Big Three Chant. That would have been the perfect place to end.

I still have about 4 episodes to go, I just finished watching Sophie and Kevin reunite… again.
I’m really annoyed with, what I felt like, Toby’s character assassination. Although neither of them were wrong in their fights, Toby would at least acknowledge Kate’s POV, but Kate just seemed to never consider any of Toby’s very sensible plans. I also wish they just chose some random guy for Kate to marry and not Phillip. He was a jerk and never got redeemed in my eyes.
As for Kevin and Sophie, ugh. Although I like them together, but man, those two are just dysfunctional together. At least I have an easier time seeing some character growth in Kevin and how maybe this time, it will be different.
I love Randall and Beth. That is all.
