I don't understand the "early release for fear of COVID" thing. Is there something about him that makes him more susceptible to COVID than other prisoners? I'm not being cute. I didn't understand the request when R Kelly made it and I don't understand it now. They have the money to have their lawyers file motions to aggressively fight for their comfort and safety that most prisoners do not. They are also extremely spoiled and used to getting their own way, so proceeding with their prison terms as if they aren't special is not an option. |

Since Aunt Becky's daughters used crew as their "side door", I thought this article about the walk-ons for UW Women's Crew, was very interesting. Apparently UW sends a letter to every woman admitted asking if they would like to row crew, and they have been very successful with this approach - there has been a UW walk-on in every Olympics since women's collegiate rowing started. They normally pick the team after a training camp, but because of COVID this year the entire freshman team was picked just from their written surveys. I think I've mentioned that I *did* attend and graduate from USC, and at least back in the 80's they also solicited walk-ons for women's crew, but not at such a dedicated level - they put flyers up around campus and you started the first week of classes. My freshman roommate attended a few practices but got tired of the 5 AM wakeups and quit. And of course all these women were actually admitted to their respective schools! Kind of on-topic for the college admission scandal, here in Seattle you can't throw a rock without hitting a UW alum, but in recent years it has become very very hard to be admitted, and not just for computer science. I'm not sure the boomers here realize that yet. My daughter was a two-sport varsity athlete all 4 years in HS, honors classes with a 3.7 unweighted GPA, scored 5's on both AP Calc tests, many music extra-curriculars, and she was waitlisted at UW for Gen Ed. Luckily she didn't want to go there! My son was also waitlisted this year for UW but that was much less surprising as his resume is much less impressive. |

That's really interesting! I hadn't realized how intense the sport is, though I am fairly sure that neither of Aunt Becky's girls knew either.

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli Ask Permission to Vacation in Mexico While on ProbationIMO they should just do their time and probation and stop drawing attention to themselves. Wanting to be whisked away to Mexico for a vacation only shows more of that white priviledge and how they couldn't care less about their punishment. There will be plenty of time for vacations that don't require permission. You're already home! Just get your shit together and work on your family. Geez. |

It's pretty darn brazen to request the Cabo vacation when one has not yet completed the community service. There will be plenty of time for vacations that don't require permission. You're already home! Just get your shit together and work on your family. Geez. Isn't Cabo just about staying in the resort and being pampered while looking at The Pacific Ocean? It seems to me like there are a number of options in California at which it's possible to replicate that experience. |
