Politics XVI: Democracy In The Balance

I am extremely disappointed in Jill Biden and the members of the Biden family who encouraged Joe to run again. Don't get me wrong, I'll vote for him even if he's a corpse ala "Weekend at Bernie's," but he should not have been on the ballot this year. Who would want to see their husband or father embarassing himself on the world stage, subject to constant scrutiny over every little gaffe or shuffle in his gait? All of us waiting with bated breath in hopes that each appearance will be coherent. Hate to break it to them, but it's not going to get any better, and this should not be a part of his legacy.

I'm also disappointed in both parties that these are the two candidates we're stuck with. Neither one fit to be POTUS, for very different reasons. This CANNOT be the best this country can come up with.

That being said, I guess I have to content myself with voting for a party moreso than an individual on one side, ala many European countries. Regardless of whether it's Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Mickey Mouse, he/she will be backed by a team that isn't beholden to a fascist agenda. That's a winning ticket every time in my book.

Yes it was! He called Trump a loser, a criminal and a rapist. Biden laid out his agenda vs what a Trump presidency would bring. Quite the contrast.

President Biden lays out his second term agenda:

—Restore Roe v. Wade
—Sign John Lewis Voting Rights Act
—Expand Social Security and Medicare
—End all medical debt
—Raise the minimum wage
—Pass the PRO Act for workers
—Ban assault weapons
—Lead the world on clean energy
—Permanent child tax credit
—$35 insulin cap for all
—Build more housing
—Invest in child care and elder care

I loved the beautiful African-American woman who was enthusiastic about voting for Biden. She thinks he’s been a great president and she’d vote for “two dead flies with their wings pulled off” before she’d vote for T****.

I don't think he was as big (could be wrong, reports are early) as it's coming off, but Trump appears to have been shot at and injured at Pennsylvania Rally ... He's Fine, Rushed to Medical Facility.

What was odd is that it didn't look like he was bleeding when he went down and no one was injured behind him? Maybe a BB gun?

My first thought was it was staged but AP is now reporting that the shooter has been neutralized
and 1 attendee is dead.

Yeah, it's still so early to know all the details -- but TMZ said that the shot hit his teleprompter and the glass is what ended up hitting his face. The shooter was in the bleachers of the rally, which is so insane. Mr. Spin is going a little nuts (to say the least) and wants to know how he got a gun in when these events are so highly screened.

I don't know what to think, but missing what I'm assuming was his goal to aim at Trump only caused more problems and makes this seem like Trump survived some sort of war-level gun fire and now it's only going to make him look better. It's so ridiculous.

This all just makes me so sad. This country... this political time... it's a mess. I am so tired of all of this.

I had posted about this in the current events thread and I was also wondering how someone was able to bring a weapon into a secured area. I am sure we will understand more as time passes but this confused/concerned me too.

Now knowing an attendee died...and Trump is going to fully monetize this for his re-election and galvanize his base even further....plus this is just very sad to think a shooting will happen at a political event (again) in this country. It's very upsetting.
