Judge dismisses classified documents indictment against Trump

U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon’s ruling is a remarkable win for Trump, whose lawyers have thrown longshot argument after longshot argument to dismiss the case. Other courts have rejected similar arguments to the one that he made in Florida about Smith’s unlawful appointment.

“Upon careful study of the foundational challenges raised in the Motion, the Court is convinced that Special Counsel’s Smith’s prosecution of this action breaches two structural cornerstones of our constitutional scheme—the role of Congress in the appointment of constitutional officers, and the role of Congress in authorizing expenditures by law,” Cannon concluded in her 93-page order.

Judge Cannon was appointed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 2020 by Trump.

I feel like Jack Smith has planned for this and will appeal. She is corrupt and now has nothing to lose by leaning into that fully since there are no consequences for corruption in this country.

It's my opinion (and I have no proof) that Trump thought someone threw a firecracker at him and so was mugging for the crowd. It wasn't until later he learned it was a bullet.

All I've been hearing for days is "This is Biden's fault. He told people to put a bullseye on Trump." Dude. Being told that we are always taking what Trump says out of context sure are quick to do it themselves. Not to mention how many times Trump has said very specific and non-specific things that have led to violence, yet, we're reading too much into it. But Biden makes the comment about putting the focus on Trump using a metaphor and suddenly, he's the one that put the hit out on Trump?

Seriously, that's all the GOP is going with at this point. Unreal.

I remember Marc Maron's interview with then-sitting President Obama and he (half-)jokes on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that the Secret Service snipers on the roofs on neighboring houses while Obama was in his garage. I'm baffled that anyone could have anything more lethal than a butter knife and be that close to a former president/presidential candidate! Hopefully, a moratorium can be called for these rallies and perhaps some firing all the Secret Service jokes who let Drumpf have his little moment when he could've be assassinated!

The most trivial piece of information about the Trump thing: my friend just told me the shooter worked at a center she recruits for. I was like what can you do with that information? Poorly paid and overworked?

ETA: she confirmed he was not poorly paid or overworked. he worked in a kitchen. also she said their company is being inundated by the press. I can't imagine what his family members are going through. I'm sure they're getting more attention than the poor man that actually died.

I believe plenty of T***p (and GOP) appointed judges denied the repeated MAGA attempts to overturn the election results, as well as Dem appointed judges. Cannon is a special brand of awful, she's been noticeably in favor of the defense since the beginning, and was already overturned twice by the eleventh circuit in very blunt decisions.

She's been waiting for this opportunity, and Clarence Thomas' weird opinion he wrote on the presidential immunity decision (which none of the other Supreme Court judges signed onto) pretty much walked her through his opinion that Special Counsels are unlawfully appointed. She apparently cited his opinion repeatedly.

For everyone who thinks it's OK to sit out the election or vote against Biden, this is the kind of judge (or any governmental employee) that you can look forward to being packed in by T***p.

I live in Milwaukee, where the RNC is being held. Any other GOP candidate, I'd be excited about this. I always vote for Dems, but I've followed politics since before I could vote. But both the RNC and the DNC are such a part of Americana. But Trump is such a disgusting stain on the U.S.. I'm not the biggest Biden fan, but I cannot take another Trump presidency.

I love the Vance pick. He's a nut job that only appeals to Trump's base. Haley would have been a more worrisome pick as she may have swayed some more traditional Republicans to hold their nose and vote for Trump.
