Yeah, really, very little would be MORE work than a daily show, let alone the level of THE Daily Show. A once a week show, or even more sporadic...that's less.
I don't begrudge him leaving, and I am thrilled he will still be contributing to the media in some way.

I'm warming up to Trevor Noah a lot. The bit on Hillary's Benghazi hearings was hilarious. The thing that really stands out to me is his energy -- watching him, it really highlights how burned out Jon was at the end of his TDS tenure. Don't get me wrong, I would've hit burnout stage probably a decade earlier if I were in Jon's shoes, so I'm not saying that to be mean. I'm happy that he has his farm now and a seemingly much lighter schedule at HBO. It's well-earned.

I don't begrudge him leaving either, I just thought when he was walking away, it was going to be a long time before he mounted a comeback, or he would leave the spotlight for good. It's not like he has to drag the same cast and crew to whatever new venue he surfaced in, but it does seem weird to me. If he wanted a fresh start, why not just say that?

Was there a lot of behind-the-scenes staff changeover when Jon left TDS? I know some of the long-time on-air correspondents decided it was a good time to make their exit with Jon, but I assumed that most, if not all of the crew kept their jobs. I know Jon seems synonymous with TDS, but the show existed for years before he became host and I don't see why it shouldn't continue with a new host.
If Jon had decided to, for example, make TDS a once-a-week show instead of a daily show, I think *that* would have put a lot of people out of work and essentially destroyed what the show is.
I'm glad Jon didn't destroy TDS just because he wanted a lighter work load. If he now creates a new, less-demanding show, I think this is a net positive. TDS can continue on (hopefully continuing to thrive and win Peabodies) and we still get to hear from Jon too.

From what I understand, most of the behind the scenes people stayed at TDS. So I agree that this probably works out best for all involved. I don't think Jon ever said he was retiring from showbiz, just that he was stepping down from TDS, so I'm not surprised he's found something that works better for him.

I got the impression that it was the daily grind, coupled with the fact that he felt he was missing his children's growing-up years, that influenced his decision. Whatever he's planning next will take far less of his time away from his family.

Did anybody ever watch this show? From hearing Jon Stewart talk in interviews about current events in the past few years, he's seemed a little stuck in the past and not really hitting the mark anymore.
I think there may be a season for great political comedians to make their contribution and it doesn't last forever.

That's sad, but some of his political takes were beyond reasonable such as oil companies and environmental agencies need to cooperate (what?). His show on trans rights was well-done, but he's ironically been eclipsed by his Daily Show alums, especially John Oliver (Last Week Tonight). Ki thought it was another separation or divorce.
