Did anybody ever watch this show? From hearing Jon Stewart talk in interviews about current events in the past few years, he's seemed a little stuck in the past and not really hitting the mark anymore. I think there may be a season for great political comedians to make their contribution and it doesn't last forever. I think you may be right. Not sure if it's a matter of being passionate about one or two subjects that pulls them into the political fray but then they're expected to comment on everything, or if that in the beginning they have to make a case to lay out their beliefs but then they start to get lazy and believe if they just speak they'll be trusted and believed. Maybe it's a combination of both.

Maybe it's a combination of both. I also think he Got Serious, and that is antithetical to good comedy. I agree with the stands he takes, and making a serious stand when you’re known as a funny man can pull attention to your causes (“He’s so passionate!”) but if every sound bite we see, you’re harping on some issue, the charm wears thin after a while.

I watched his show on Apple once or twice but it didn’t appeal to me. I was a devoted Daily Show fan. I’m not sure what the difference was.

Iv had absolutely no idea he had a new show. I loved him on the Daily Show (still prefer him over Trevor Noah) but by the end of his time there he was looking exhausted and he has a specific style that probably does come and go out of fashion.
What happened with JS was fascinating. He was a comedian who poked fun at the news, who ended up becoming a trusted news source, firmly cemented around the time of his Zadroga Bill episode. And the world has only gotten more insane since then. I don't actually think he liked that at first, I remember he kept on saying he was a comedian not a newsman but then it did become his brand.

I only recently subscribed to Apple TV and I'm just not in the habit of watching things on it, so Jon's show escaped my notice, basically.
John Oliver's show on HBO is my preferred long-form comedy/news show and there's only so much that I can watch.
I appreciate that Jon went on Colbert's show and declared that, in his opinion, it was obvious that COVID originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, at a time when saying such a thing was taboo. He was ripped to shreds for it by his former fans. Time has proven that it was probably more stupid to dismiss the idea out of hand than it was to entertain it as a legitimate possibility.

I watched the show and it was good, IMO. It had bits of his humor and comedy, but it wasn't the Daily Show (which I miss!). I really enjoyed him doing the hot topic investigations and speaking to the lawmakers and those that are trying to pass or maybe did pass ridiculous laws in their states. Like drag show bans, gender affirming care, gun control (or lack thereof). You can watch some of these interviews on YouTube in full.
I'm sad to see it go and wish that he could fill the spot left open by Trevor Noah. I feel that maybe this timing is maybe some sort of divine providence? Heh.

I loved his episode on transgender rights, and showed the malice behind the conservative/Republican/Christian crowd that wants "to protect the children" by not following medical advice. I strongly believe that his proposed episodes on China and AI pushed too many buttons for Apple+, so the show got the axe. I remember his Colbert appearance, and he sounded unhinged while talking about the Wuhan lab and it worried me. He didn't make a good case for the theory.

Jon Stewart Returns to ‘The Daily Show’ as HostStewart will also be an executive producer. While I enjoyed Stewart's tenure on the show, having him re-join feels like a step backwards. He seemed really drained the last couple of years he was there, which is probably what led to this part-time hosting structure. The article does a good job of laying out the show's history from Stewart and Noah's time there through now. I would be disappointed if I were one of the correspondents who was gunning for the host job. First, there's a slew of celeb guest hosts and the correspondents are squeezed in as hosts only for a few days at a time. Then, the former guy comes back and you're going to keep on rotating the other days of the week? Seems chaotic. I would not be surprised if other correspondents followed Roy Wood, Jr.'s footsteps and left. I feel like that this is a series in a number of casting missteps. Years ago, the show failed to lock in John Oliver as host before HBO signed him. Having said that, I enjoyed Trevor Noah's run as well; the tone of the show became more international under his watch. Then over the past year, there was the Hasan Minhaj controversy and now this.

Didn’t Jeopardy do something similar after Alex Trebek passed?
